Latest NFL News & Rumors This Week
With so many more injuries, headlines, and drama this past week, there is plenty to cover. In today's Latest NFL News & Rumors This Week, we discuss Joe Burrow's return, coaching changes and rumors across the league, and much more!
QB Injury Update: Joe Burrow Back, Baker Mayfield Injured
The Joe Flacco experience was fun while it lasted, but it is seemingly coming to an end in Cincinnati. As of right now, the Cincinnati Bengals are expecting to have their franchise quarterback, Joe Burrow, back this week to face off against the division rival Baltimore Ravens on Thanksgiving Day. Without Burrow, the Bengals went 1-8 and are 3-8 on the season, meaning playoff hopes are starting to fade, but if they were to win out with Burrow at the helm, anything is possible.
Meanwhile, Burrow is not the only quarterback dealing with injury. Baker Mayfield's status is now in question as he suffered a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder during his matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football. With the NFC South title currently up in the air, adding his injury to the countless injuries the Bucs have faced this season would be brutal. C.J. Stroud, Jaxson Dart, and Jayden Daniels are also attempting to work their way back into the starting lineups of their respective teams, as all three young QBs have missed multiple games with their respective injuries.
Interestingly enough, Dillon Gabriel has been cleared from concussion protocol, but Shedeur Sanders is to remain the starter moving forward after he won his first start against the Las Vegas Raiders.
NFL Coaching Changes: Giants, Raiders
In response to the Raiders' loss against the Cleveland Browns, where Shedeur Sanders broke a streak of 17 straight Browns quarterbacks losing their first starts, Las Vegas has decided to move on from offensive coordinator Chip Kelly in his first year with the team. QB Coach Greg Olson will take on the role of interim offensive coordinator. This will be Olson's third stint as the Raiders' OC.
Additionally, the Giants made a similar move after their heartbreaking overtime defeat against the Detroit Lions. After already parting ways with head coach Brian Daboll, the Giants are now moving on from defensive coordinator Shane Bowen. Bowen has seemingly underperformed with one of the more talented defensive units on paper and will now be temporarily replaced by outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen.
NFL Transaction Update: Saints Sign Cade York
This week, the New Orleans Saints have been in search of a new kicker after Blake Grupe went one for three in the Saints' matchup against the Falcons last weekend. They held tryouts for a few kickers, including former Raven Justin Tucker, but settled on the former fourth-round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns, Cade York. As a result, Grupe has been released by the team, and Justin Tucker remains a free agent, a couple of weeks removed from being reinstated by the NFL after his suspension.
NFL Coaching Rumors
With the NFL season over two-thirds of the way through, the coaching carousel discussions have begun for teams looking for their next head coach. A few names have already begun to rise to the surface for coaching vacancies, such as former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and current Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, specifically for the New York Giants' head coaching job.
Interestingly enough, there has been a rumor circulating about a “longtime” head coach who is considering a change of scenery. While the identity of the coach is currently unknown, names like Mike Tomlin and John Harbaugh have been speculated.
