NBA DFS Showdown Slate Picks

MVP/Captain

Joel Embiid, Philadelphia 76ers

Embiid is back from dealing with an injury, and boy has he been on a tear in the past four games. He has not scored fewer than 30 points in either of those four games. He has at least 10 rebounds in three out of the four games. These two teams matched up a couple of days before Christmas and Embiid went off for 44, and 63 game points. Embiid is the top play for the captain spot tonight.

Kawhi Leonard, Los Angeles Clippers

Kawhi is back, he has played over 30 minutes in four straight games, and he is leading this Clippers offense. He has taken over 20 shot attempts in three of his last four games. What you also love to see outside the shot attempts is the four assists in four straight games as well. The last time these teams matched up Kawhi scored just short of 40 fantasy points. Kawhi is in play tonight at the captain spot if Paul George in a no-go tonight.

James Harden, Philadelphia 76ers

Harden quietly might be the play at the captain spot tonight, he might have the highest ceiling on the slate tonight. But Harden has been extremely consistent scoring at least 57 fantasy points in his last five games as well. Harden isn't the high-usage guy he once was, ranking just 57th, but he is still getting it done with a league-leading 11 assists per game. As I am writing this, I am talking myself into Harden being my captain tonight.

Utility

Tyrese Maxey, Philadelphia 76ers

I do not love Maxey's price tonight with being priced over 7k when he hasn't scored five times that in any of his last five games. He is still scoring well, Maxey has scored at least 16 points in seven straight games. It's his assist numbers that are down, as he has had over two assists in one of his last five games. The minutes are there for him, and he could and maybe he pops off tonight, but he isn't a must in your lineup tonight.

Norman Powell, Los Angeles Clippers

This is the Norman Powell we have been waiting all season for. Over his past five games, he is averaging 28 minutes, and scoring 31 fantasy points. His three-point shooting has been lights out during that span as well shooting just under 45% from the floor. His offensive usage obviously has a lot to do with Paul George being out, and George could return in this one. But he still possesses value even if George plays.

Terance Mann, Los Angeles Clippers

Terance Mann is now the official starting point guard for the Clippers. John Wall is out for at least two weeks. Head coach Ty Lue said Reggie Jackson will serve as the primary backup for Mann. Mann went off in the Clippers last game scoring 47 fantasy points. I don't know that we get that type of game from him again, especially if Paul George plays. But at $6,400 I am all in on Mann tonight.

Marcus Morris Sr., Los Angeles Clippers

Marcus Morris isn't a guy with a ton of ceiling, but we have seen him possess a nice 20-point floor for most of the season. After a few clunkers, we have seen that come back and he even scored 32 fantasy points just two games ago as well. With his price down to $5,000, I am in on him tonight.

Dart Throws

Shake Milton, Philadelphia 76ers

With everyone healthy in Philadelphia Milton's minutes drastically take a ht around just 15 minutes a night. This dart throw is just based on his talent alone because he is a very productive player when he gets the opportunity. If he gets hot tonight, he should return value being priced under $4,000 on DraftKings.

Robert Covington, Los Angeles Clippers

With Paul George out of the lineup, Covington has been getting extended run, and has been very productive with it. He has only failed to score under 22 fantasy points once in his last five games and that was an 18 point performance. If George is a no go again tonight, Covington should be a solid play again at his price.
