Daily Dribble Friday, February 28th
It is finally time to wave bye to winter, well at least February. Here is to hoping that with the passing of this month so to goes the Polar Vortex that has had us colder than Brandon Jennings from the perimeter. Speaking of waving, shoutout to mwood as he waved his fist in victory as he finished first overall in SKYLLZONE’s Fan vs Machine contest on Wednesday winning $220. Props also go out to bobf58 for a second place finish ($120) and Dorsett333 (give him a follow here @mnorrad) who finished 3rd and a 6th overall for a combined cash of $190. Way to show the machine who was boss fellas and to take advantage of your free entries. (Yours truly did alright defeating the machine and finish 7th overall .50 points from tying Mr. Norrad for sixth). SKYLLZONE will run another contest next Wednesday. I look forward to battling it with all of you again and for those of you who did not get in last week but want in for this coming week click here SKYLLZONE’s Fan vs Machine and here is a look at the top tournaments of the night. Injury News
I will focus on any injury news that pertains to this evening’s slate of games, but be sure to visit our Player News section to catch up on other injuries and player insight that will give you a head start when it comes to planning future lineups.
DeMarcus Cousins was suspended for punching Rockets guard Patrick Beverley in the stomach during Tuesday night's game, which he will serve tonight as the Kings travel to LA to take on the Lakers. Early rumors were that Carl Landry would get the start in place of Cousins, but Kings head coach Mike Malone has since said his probable starters are Isaiah Thomas, Ben McLemore, Rudy Gay, Derrick Williams, and Jason Thompson per Kings beat writer Jason Jones. This should move the masses off of using Carl Landry this evening, which excites me even more to use him in GPP contests. I still see Landry playing plenty of minutes and I actually like him coming off the bench against a Lakers team that is near the bottom in every defensive category in the league, if not at the very bottom.
Anthony Davis said his shoulder "feels better," but he is listed as a game time decision for Friday's game versus the Suns. Davis said there still is some soreness in his shoulder, but he has no limitations and has full range of motion. Pelicans head coach said if Davis does not play he would likely start Luke Babbitt who matches up better with the versatile Channing Frye. I would have more confidence in Alexis Ajinca regardless if Davis plays or not as he has emerged as a solid fantasy contributor over his last three games (avg. 26-plus FP).
Dion Waiters (knee), C.J. Miles (ankle), and Anderson Varejao (back) are all OUT tonight against the Jazz. Kyrie Irving has been on fire the last two games sinking 20 of his 41 shots (5-for-12 from 3-point land) with 18 assists, and six steals while averaging 44 mpg. And for an added bonus Uncle Drew is averaging over six FP at home then on the road. If you are looking for a sleeper play who has benefited from the above players being out it would be Jarrett Jack (9.8% of your cap) who has scored 22-plus FP in each of his last two games.
Chris Kaman is listed as probable after missing Wednesday’s game with a sore back. Even with Kaman out Jordan Hill played just six minutes, so I would avoid Hill should Kaman not play and look to Wesley Johnson as the discounted Lakers frontcourt option instead.
Steve Nash (leg), Nick Young (knee), and Xavier Henry (knee) are OUT tonight versus the Kings. Kent Bazemore leads the Lakers in scoring since joining the team at 17.3 ppg in his four games with his new team. Bazemore’s price tag has not caught up with this surge of production making him an almost most play against a Kings team that is allowing the fourth most points per game on the season.
That’s a wrap on the injury report. Best of luck tonight in all your contests. I hope you all can celebrate the last day of this short month in style waving your hands around like you just don’t care, shouting “Bring on the madness of March. I don’t care the Daily Dribble helped me cash today!”
