NBA Best Bets Today, 1/9: Picks, Predictions & Player Props - Friday
The Indiana Pacers finally delivered with their first win in almost a month. Thus giving Rick Carlisle his 1,000th NBA victory as a Head Coach. They had to do it with late-game heroics, including an inbound steal with less than 15 seconds in the game. The Charlotte -4 could not hold up on the second of back-to-back games.
Rudy Gobert cleared his rebounding line by 1.5 rebounds in an emotional game in Minneapolis. One that the Timberwolves felt like they ‘had to win’ to uplift their city. The Nikola Vucevic bet was voided for a reason that Fantasy Alarm NBA Best Bets has never experienced. Condensation. ‘Quit breathing on the glass,’ or in this case, the court. Regardless, Vucevic didn’t have to play in back-to-back games, and no money was lost or gained on the proposition.
Today, we bounce back and give out the best bets in a loaded slate of games. There are ten games today. The first NBA best bet features an Eastern Conference versus Western Conference battle between teams that are currently out of the playoffs.

NBA Best Bets Today, 1/9: Picks, Predictions & Player Props - Friday
Los Angeles Clippers vs Brooklyn Nets: Friday 1/9
Game Time: 7:30 PM ET | TV: NBA League Pass |Â Location:Â Barclays Center |Â Odds: LAC -2.5 | O/U 215.5
- Prediction: Michael Porter Jr Over 25.5 (-122 on FanDuel Sportsbook)Â
Guess who’s back? Michael Porter is back again, and we are riding on the most successful betting angle of the season. His points. The number is set at 26.5 with almost even odds on a few other sportsbooks, but taking the 25.5 line with just a little juice is the best bet. However, he has scored 27 or more points in five consecutive contests.
The Brooklyn Nets host the Los Angeles Clippers, who put up a stinker against the New York Knicks in their previous games. Are the Clippers a real contender? Or are they fool's gold? How is a favorite to win the championship last season, ten games below .500 this season? The simulations must have multiple variations of outcomes for this match, as -2.5 does not seem convincing.
The Clippers only allow 114.4 points per season, but they are a dismal 4 - 14 on the road. They have allowed 121 or more points in each of their last four losses, too. Porter Jr. is the catalyst and veteran on a young team, who oftentimes leads the team in scoring. With Cam Thomas coming off the bench, Porter does not have much competition for field goals. He is also attacking the glass, 7.5 rebounds per game average, and earning offensive putbacks. Something he has done his entire NBA career.
Porter Jr. has had great offensive games against this coaching staff and essentially the same roster. Put a unit for him to score over 25.5 points on FanDuel today.
Oklahoma City Thunder vs Memphis Grizzlies: Friday 1/9
Game Time: 8:00 PM ET | TV: NBA TV |Â Location:Â FedExForum |Â Odds:Â OKC -4.5 | O/U 229.5
- Prediction: OKC -4.5 (-105 on BETMGM Sportsbook)Â
A Western Conference duel takes place on national television, and it features the reigning champions. The Memphis Grizzlies host the Oklahoma City Thunder in what is projected to be a tight game. The Thunder have been playing subpar and were lucky to sneak out a victory against the 13 - 24 Utah Jazz. However, Memphis isn’t playing much better, and the spread is the best bet of this match.
The Grizzlies are currently tenth in the Western Conference and have lost seven of their last ten games. The Thunder have lost four of their last ten games, but have won by eight or more points in 11 of their last 12 games. Oftentimes by much more. They hit a tough patch but have a much better roster than the Grizzlies, who could be looking to completely rebuild. Put a unit on the Thunder to bounce back and cover the spread.

NBA Prop Bet Today, 1/9
The Denver Nuggets displayed their depth against the Eastern Conference. They went 3 - 4 on their eastern road trip, much better than most thought they would do without Nikola Jokic. Tonight, they host the new look Atlanta Hawks in what two-time Coach of the Year Hubie Brown called the toughest road game. The first home game after an extensive road trip.
Not to fear, as Jamal Murray is on an All-NBA pace this season. He has always been an excellent player who happens to play with the best player of all time. Without Jokic, Murray has set career assist numbers in back-to-back games. However, this best bet looks at his three-point field goals.
Murray has made three or more threes in two of his last three games. He is often involved with high screens with the center, and if he gets a clean look off a screen, he will attempt a three-point field goal. The Atlanta Hawks have a decent perimeter defense, but they do not have a guard capable of stopping Murray for four quarters. Put a unit on Murray to make three or more threes at Ball Arena today.
