NBA Best Bets Today, 12/27: Picks, Predictions & Player Props - Saturday
Meatloaf is back on the menu! The profits keep rolling in for Fantasy Alarm NBA Best Bets. Both the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers covered their spread. Chicago controlled the game against the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Los Angeles Clippers continued to play well against the Portland Trail Blazers. Both teams have been playing better since the NBA Cup, and it is worth monitoring their upcoming games for betting purposes.
Jalen Duren and the Detroit Pistons were embarrassed by the Utah Jazz. They came in as heavy favorites, but ended up losing 131-129. Duren was outrebounded by four fellow Detroit Pistons never mind the Utah Jazz players. He managed a measly four rebounds in 22 minutes. A terrible display from Duren. There are nine games today, but none are on national television programming. With that in mind, player propositions are the key to today’s best bets.
NBA Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 12/27
Brooklyn Nets vs Minnesota Timberwolves: Saturday, 12/27
Game Time: 8:00 PM ET | TV: NBA League Pass | Location: Target Center | Odds: MIN -9.5 | O/U 224.5
Prediction: Michael Porter Over 23.5 Points (-105 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
The term “Brooklyn’s finest” may conjure images of the 2009 movie with Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, and Wesley Snipes. Or perhaps a song by The Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z come to mind. But it’s not them, nor the Beastie Boyz, that the expression represents. It’s Michael Porter Jr.
The Brooklyn Nets take their talents to the frozen north country of Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves. Minnesota is a 10-point favorite, and it is expected to be a low-scoring game with a 224.5 point total. That does not detour us from betting on the most profitable player of the season. This column has raked in units on this exact point proposition.
Porter has cashed this bet three times this month alone. His point proposition was at 24.5 in their most recent game and he scored 28. He got off of the 23.5 hook in the game prior to the 28-point game. In fact, Porter has scored 24 or more points in seven of his last eight games. Like Jay-Z “MPJ” is screaming you’re JV.. (he’s) hot like cajun…here comes the grim reaper. Okay maybe he’s just focusing on his game, and looking at gametape like the studious player he is.
Even against a good defensive team, the expectation is for Porter Jr. to have a great offensive game. His bid for the All-Star game is a legitimate one, and grows with every performance. Put a unit on the best bet of over 23.5 points for Porter.
Cleveland Cavaliers vs Houston Rockets: Saturday, 12/27
Game Time: 8:00 PM ET | TV: Local | Location: Toyota Center | Odds: HOU -4.5 | O/U 235.5
Prediction: Evan Mobley Over 14.5 Points (-105 on FanDuel Sportsbook)
Evan Mobley returned for the Christmas game against the New York Knicks. His return was slightly ahead of schedule, but Mobley wants to play because he’s a big-time player. And big-time players play in big-time games. The match against the Knicks was an action-packed thriller that ended with a Cavaliers loss.
Mobley played 25 minutes, scored 14 points, went six-of-eight from the field, recorded nine rebounds, and earned three assists. He didn’t record a steal or block, which should tell everyone the reigning defensive player of the year wasn’t 100% for the game. The expectation is he will play more minutes today, and he will also take more field goal attempts.
14 points on six-of-eight shooting is extremely efficient, but the Cavaliers’ offense fizzled out late in the fourth quarter. Mobley will need to be a force against a tall lineup, and he will likely attempt more than two free throws. Donovan Mitchell is a great scorer, but will need to lean on Mobley against a tall backcourt. Although the Timberwolves are good, expect Mobley to get more than 14.5 points today. Put a unit on this best bet.
NBA Prop Bet Today, 12/27
Karl-Anthony Towns Under 12.5 Rebounds (-127 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
The New York Knicks travel to Atlanta to play the Hawks at State Farm Arena. Fantasy Alarm often takes the spread or moneyline, due to Atlanta’s terrible home record. However the moneyline is juiced, and -6.5 seems like a high spread against a well-rested team. With that in mind the under on Karl-Anthony Towns rebounds is suggested.
Towns’ rebounding line is set at 12.5 and he’s averaging 11.8 this season. Atlanta allows 45.7 rebounds per game to opposing teams, which isn’t the best. However Jalen Johnson and Onyeka Okongwu are filling the void of Kristaps Porzingis, and playing well together. Towns will have size over both of them, but Towns also sets high screens for Brunson. He is also a great three-point scorer which will keep him outside of the paint offensively.
There is also the possibility Towns gets in foul trouble or the Knicks blowout the Hawks. In both scenarios Towns would be on the bench more. 13 rebounds require a great deal of playing time and effort. He has recorded less than 12.5 rebounds in six of his last nine games. The expectation is for him to do it once more. Put a unit on this best bet today.
