NBA Best Bets Today, 1/8: Picks, Predictions & Player Props - Thursday
The Toronto Raptors won the match against the Charlotte Hornets, but they were unable to cover the -2.5 spread. They started out well, but the Hornets took the lead in the second half, and the Raptors had to claw their way back for the victory. The New York Knicks finally put up a great offensive performance. They went over the team’s proposition midway through the fourth quarter. They also shook their losing streak against the visiting Los Angeles Clippers.
Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets gave their best attempt to hold off the red-hot Portland Trail Blazers. However, they came up one point short as Portland won its fourth consecutive game. Those games bring out the best in Durant as he doesn’t see the bench much. He played 37 minutes last night and scored 37 points. Thus ruining our prediction of under 27.5 points.
Today features the smallest game slate this week. There are only four games today, and only one is nationally televised. The first best bet of today comes from the game with the first tip-off.

NBA Best Bets Today, 1/8: Picks, Predictions & Player Props - Thursday
Indiana Pacers vs Charlotte Hornets: Thursday 1/8
Game Time: 7:00 PM ET | TV: NBA League Pass |Â Location:Â Spectrum Center |Â Odds: CHA -4.0 | O/U 234.5
- Prediction: CHA -4 (-108 on FanDuel Sportsbook)Â
The Charlotte Hornets played last night and lost on a last-second three-point attempt by the Raptors. They are still favored against the Association’s last-placed team, the Indiana Pacers. If the Pacers start playing too well, Rick Carlisle may call a timeout to stop their own momentum. In all seriousness, the Pacers are not playing well and seem committed to playing subpar for a high lottery pick.
The Hornets have been playing much better than anyone anticipated going into the season. They are still in the bottom third of the Eastern Conference and have lost six of their last ten games. But they are not getting blown out. It appears the franchise has finally turned the corner, and do not be surprised if they are part of a trade this month. They have a talented young core that looks promising, and they are a better team than the Indiana Pacers.
Charlotte has 13 wins this season, and they have won by over four points in each win. Look for that to happen again today. Put a unit on the best bet of Charlotte to cover the spread on their home court against the worst team in the NBA.
Miami Heat vs Chicago Bulls: Thursday 1/8
Game Time: 8:00 PM ET | TV: NBA TV |Â Location:Â United Center |Â Odds:Â MIA -7.5 | O/U 238.5
Nikola Vucevic has been more productive lately. Particularly with rebounds. He has recorded 16 and 15 rebounds in the last two games. However, that was against the Detroit Pistons, who were without Jalen Duren. The other game was against the Boston Celtics, who blew out the Chicago Bulls. Most importantly, the Bulls lost both of those games.Â
Vucevic has also led the team in assists in two of the last three games, as the Bulls try to stay afloat without Josh Giddey. Vucevic is a veteran who may not have the spunk he did 10 years ago, but with so many injuries to Chicago’s roster, Vucevic will be forced to play. That is why today’s best bet is on under 10.5 rebounds for the Montenegrin.Â
He is up against the Miami Heat, who have two great rebounders as well. Bam Adebayo has been playing great this season, and Kel’el Ware is averaging more rebounds per game than any player in this match. Chicago could play Vucevic fewer minutes, particularly if this becomes a blowout loss. As much as we love the big man, put a unit on him to record less than 10.5 rebounds in the second of back-to-back games.

NBA Prop Bet Today, 1/8
Rudy Gobert and the Minnesota Timberwolves host the Cleveland Cavaliers in what should be a thrilling game. It features a battle of great guards, but the battle of the big men is what will determine the winners in this match. The Cavaliers will have a healthy Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, and they are playing well together. They will not be easy for Gobert to gain position on, nor box out.
Gobert is an elite center, but Naz Reid is starting to play more as well. Gobert is still playing over 31 minutes a game, but Reid could be brought in to boost the offense. Gobert has scored over 13 points just once in his last ten games, and the projected total of this match is 239.5 points. The expectation is that Reid will be needed to keep pace with the Cavaliers' style of offense. Put a unit on Gobert to record less than 11.5 rebounds against the good frontcourt of Cleveland.Â
