The Los Angeles Lakers did not show up to play against the Cleveland Cavaliers yesterday. A 3.5 spread prediction ended in a 129 - 99 victory for the Cavaliers. The damage was done in the second half as Cleveland outscored Los Angeles 72 - 44.

The Orlando Magic put it on the Miami Heat, ending their road streak. It leaves one wondering who exactly are the Miami Heat? They had a -3.0 spread at home against a struggling team, and ended up losing 133 - 124. They could have moved into sixth place in the Eastern Conference with a win, but now flipped rankings with the Magic, who moved into seventh.

There were several lopsided victories yesterday. Jock Landale and the Memphis Grizzlies did not show up and lost against the Charlotte Hornets 112 - 97. The worst part of it was that Landale was not able to play his best game, despite Santi Aldama being a late scratch.

It was a bizarre day yesterday, and those happen every once in a while. There are eight NBA games today, and two games are nationally televised on Amazon Prime Video. However, the first best bet focuses on a different match.

NBA Best Bets Today, 1/29: Picks, Predictions & Player Props Thursday

Houston Rockets vs Atlanta Hawks: Thursday 1/29

Game Time: 8:00 PM ET | TV: NBA League Pass | Location: State Farm Arena | Odds: HOU -3.5 | O/U 234.5

Both teams played last night, and both had to travel to Atlanta after the game. There are a couple of differences that will have big impacts. The Atlanta Hawks flew back from Boston, which is in the Eastern time zone, and traveled north-to-south. Their game also ended before the Houston Rockets game was at halftime. The Hawks also jumped up 38 - 18 after the first quarter, and dominated this game despite not winning another quarter.

The Rockets were in a physical battle with the San Antonio Spurs on ESPN. The game was played until 12:00 AM ET, too. Not including post-game interviews, not getting to the runway, not showers and changing, and the actual game. Houston had the lead from the first field goal through the third quarter. Then Wembanyama came back in the game, and Houston could not score. They were locked down. The Rockets went 4 of 24 from the field in the fourth quarter. Wembanyama earned 5 blocks. Now, Houston travels to Atlanta and loses an hour in the process. It’s going to be a long night/morning.

Yesterday is part of the reason the underdogs are picked to win, but Atlanta has won four in a row, while Houston has lost five of their last ten games. Kevin Durant could be a healthy scratch, Alperen Sengun tweaked his ankle last night, and Amen Thompson was in one of the most physical games of his life. Put a unit on Atlanta to keep the momentum rolling at plus odds.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs Minnesota Timberwolves: Thursday 1/29

Game Time: 9:30 PM ET | TV: Amazon Prime Video | Location: Target Center | Odds: OKC -6.5 | O/U 225.5

It is a Northwest Division showdown between the two teams that played in the 2025 Western Conference Finals. The Minnesota Timberwolves host the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second televised match on Amazon Prime Video. These two are familiar with each other, and it will be a back-and-forth battle between great franchises.

This game is in Minneapolis, but the Timberwolves are +6.5 underdogs. The Thunder are defending their title as well as any team ever has, but they are not invincible. They are also injured at key positions, putting pressure on the duo of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren.

The Timberwolves have won two in a row and are 16 - 8 at home. They average 119.0 points per game, which is only 1.5 less than the Thunder. The Timberwolves are the healthiest they have been in years, and their team’s success is not solely dependent on Anthony Edwards. Put a unit on the best bet of Minnesota to cover the +6.5 points at home.

NBA Prop Bet Today, 1/29

Michael Porter returns to the city that drafted him in 2019, Denver. The Denver Nuggets host the Brooklyn Nets, and Porter comes in as the team’s captain and their best player. This is what he had to say about playing against his former team on The Justin Laboy Show. ‘When we play them, it’s going to be up for sure. I want to show them that I’m in a whole different role now with Brooklyn’.

It is a perfect opportunity for him to display his ability against his former team, and it’s a date that he has circled since the schedule dropped. He will get a tribute/thanks video in the pregame, which could lead to emotions. Porter Jr. is still beloved by Nuggets fans as a drafted player who helped deliver the city’s first Larry O’Brien trophy.

As for this season, Porter Jr. is averaging 33 minutes and 25.2 points per game. He scored 36 points in the Nets' most recent match and led all players in points, rebounds, and assists on Tuesday. He has scored 30 or more points in two of the Nets' last three games, and he will be bringing it. Put a unit on the second plus-odds best bet of today.
