Now that the aptly named GEICO 500 is behind us we turn our attention to the GoBowling 400 at Kansas Speedway. The 1.5-mile loop at Kansas is the most common distance for a NASCAR race and one of the three youngest circuits on the schedule along with Kentucky and Chicago. With their being 85% green flag laps at Kansas Speedway all time the fast cars play well, which shouldn’t come as a shock. Let’s take a look at the data we will use to help us set our lineups this week for the second Saturday night race of the year.

*Lineups will be posted Friday prior to qualifying and will then be updated based on starting positions. So make sure to check back on Friday and Saturday mornings.

Jimmie Johnson- Known as the king of the mile and a half tracks, it’s hard to pick against a guy who has seven wins in the last two full seasons at that distance. He also won the spring race at Kansas last year while finishing third there in the fall race during the Chase. Johnson is the most expensive this week but is sure to be riled up after a disappointing finish in the crash-laden Talladega race.

Kevin Harvick- There has been no more dominant driver at Kansas in the last three years then Harvick as he has the highest loop data rating at 122, the most laps led at 368, and the highest average finish at ninth. His last win at the track came in the fall 2013 Hollywood Casino 400 but he does have two second-place finishes since then both coming in the spring race.

Clint Bowyer- Kansas Speedway is considered Bowyer’s home track since he is originally from Emporia, Kansas and he always seems to perform well at the track. While he doesn’t have any wins at the track in the last four tries, he does have two top-5 finishes. Bowyer also owns the third best positional differential mark on the loop, which gives a nice point bonus. He has posted 60+ points in two of his last three races to boot.

Martin Truex Jr.- Truex is a top-10 option at Kansas this week after strong performances there over the past two years with the best position differential of any active driver. Over the course of this season he has also shown to be one of the most consistent drivers in the top series, especially when it comes down to tracks of this distance. Truex’s best race came at Texas, another 1.5-mile track, scoring 93 points in the Duck Commander 500.

Greg Biffle- Biffle is an oft-forgotten driver in the scheme of the top drivers but he offers top driver upside this week at Kansas. He is also a cheap option at just $6,300 on Saturday night. He has strung together three good races in a row at this point and Kansas could be four.
