Just because the MLB trade deadline has come to a conclusion it does not mean the action is slowing down. In fact, far from it as the MLB season and its requisite pennant races kick into high gear. As we work through the fallout from the plethora of transactions we have seen over the past few days, MLB DFS keeps on humming along as we look to stay in the green. For better or worse, Wednesday is an uneven day from a scheduling perspective so the MLB DFS main slate we are working with is a tidy five games. As the dust continues to settle, stay up to date with all of the latest MLB news, MLB weather, and MLB lineups in the search for some MLB value picks.

DFS Value Pitchers

Blake Snell (SD); DraftKings - $7,900; FanDuel - $9,100; Yahoo - $42

The Padres figure to be fired up tonight after the addition of Juan Soto and Josh Bell and I would expect Snell to have the proper run support while facing a Colorado team away from the friendly confines of Coors Field. The recent past has been a little rough for Snell, but if we judge him based on what we have seen in July, things become a little more attractive. After posting a 6.20 ERA in June, Snell has rebounded to post a 2.81 ERA in five July starts over 25.2 innings with five of his eight earned runs allowed in one start. Before we truly go all in on Snell, we have to keep an eye on the left-hander’s control issues as he walked 15 batters in July. The good news is that there is some optimism around Snell’s 4.43 ERA based on his 3.49 xERA and we also get strikeout upside with 11.51 per nine innings.

James Kaprielian (OAK); DraftKings - $5,700; FanDuel - $6,700; Yahoo - $40

There is certainly some risk involved here, but after all that is what makes the right-hander a value option, but things have been going pretty well for Kaprielian in July. In 28 innings, he posted an ERA of just 1.93 as opposing hitters batted just .182 against him. After allowing 11 home runs in 52 innings, Kaprielian gave up just two in July as he brought his ERA down to 4.50 on the season. With about six strikeouts per nine innings on the season we do not get a ton of upside there but it is good matchup against the Angels tonight and focusing on his fastball and slider has worked out well for Kaprielian.

DFS Value Hitters

Joey Gallo, OF (LAD); DraftKings - $3,500; FanDuel - $2,400

It had become increasingly clear that Gallo and New York simply did not agree with one another so a change of scenery was the only plausible solution. We do not need to rehash how bad Gallo was, .159 batting average and a 38.8% strikeout rate, but his power skills are also quite clear. Gallo did manage to have a 14.7% walk rate this year, and with 12 home runs he can still do some damage to the ball when he makes contact. The thinking here is that with the pressure off, Gallo can relax and get back to what he does best; hitting home runs. Playing for the Dodgers in one of the best lineups in baseball is certainly a good place for it to happen.

Trent Grisham, OF (SD); DraftKings - $2,900; FanDuel - $2,500; Yahoo - $12

For a good reason, there was a lot of buzz focused on San Diego this week and the Padres lineup will be infinitely better moving forward. Grisham will get swept up in that wave of success and it is worth noting that the outfielder was already beginning to have some success. After the first of two games on Tuesday, Grisham was still hitting just .197 and that includes a six-game hitting streak. With home runs in back-to-back games, at some point Grisham should find his groove, and what better time for that than now.

Kevin Newman, 2B/SS (PIT); DraftKings - $3,400; FanDuel - $2,700; Yahoo - $14

Newman has found a home, even if it is almost by default, at the top of the order for Pittsburgh. Prior to going hitless last night, Newman was working on a five-game hitting streak which included three multi-hit games. In 134 plate appearances, the compiler is hitting a solid .280 with 14 RBI, 12 runs scored, and four stolen bases. With a .326 batting average in his last 10 games, Newman appears to be finding his groove after a delayed start to the season.

Wilmer Flores, 1B/3B/2B (SF); DraftKings - $4,000; FanDuel - $2,900; Yahoo - $15

Historically, the thought process was to target Flores against left-handed pitchers, but this season the Giants have been sticking with in more of a regular role and he has delivered. Flores is even doing better against right-handers this season, but the overall body of work (entering action on Tuesday) is worthy of our attention. In 97 games, Flores is hitting .251 with 16 home runs, 56 RBI, and 54 runs scored and batting atop San Francisco’s lineup also helps here.
