So, with that said, let's dive into a few of the core value plays to build your lineups around for today's MLB DFS Opening Day slate!

MLB DFS Value Pitchers

Shane McClanahan, Tampa Bay Rays

There isn't a ton of value plays at the pitcher position over on FanDuel, you can take a look at Hunter Greene for strikeout upside but over on DraftKings we have an elite value play in McClanahan. The Rays are -240 favorites to win today against the Tigers and McClanahan is an elite strikeout pitcher. He figures to be pretty popular today given his pedigree and the matchup. The lone worry with McClanahan at times is how he is handled as the Rays tend to shorten the leash on their starters. That said, he should pitch deep enough into the game with a high enough strikeout potential to be well worth the price tag.

MLB DFS Value Hitters

Sean Murphy, C Atlanta Braves

The Braves brough in Murphy this offseason to be their primary catcher and today he has an elite matchup against the Washington National southpaw Patrick Corbin. Against lefties last season Murphy had an OPS of .848 but it is also important to remember he was part of the worst offense in baseball and played his games in a canyon of a stadium out in Oakland. With a better lineup and a better hitters ballpark many are expecting a breakout season from Murphy and he is a perfect price today.

Triston Casas, 1B Boston Red Sox

Maybe a littler “homer” bias here being a Red Sox fan but Casas is one of the top prospects in baseball who showed great plate discipline during his stint with the MLB club last season. He has tremendous power potential and has a great feel at the plate. If he becomes the player that scouts think he can be then he won't be this cheap very long.

Anthony Volpe, SS New York Yankees

Volpe won the job and is in the Opening Day starting lineup for the Yankees. He is just $2,500 on DraftKings and $2,400 on FanDuel. Being on the Yankees alone is enough to give him a nice ownership boost but getting him this cheap on a big 11 game slate will put him into many lineups today.

Nick Gordon, 2B Minnesota Twins

The matchup between the Twins and Royals has the highest projected game total today. The Twins have the highest team implied run total of the slate as well and yet the majority of their lineup is priced under $3,500 on DraftKings today. Gordon is hitting sixth at just $2,900 and $2,400 on DraftKings and FanDuel respectively. He has a little bit of power and a little bit of speed which is great for DFS upside.

Jordan Walker, OF St. Louis Cardinals

On DraftKings he isn't much of a value but over on FanDuel he is just $2,400 which is where he like to take our chances here today. He has a high power ceiling and while he faces a tough pitcher in Alek Manoah, the Cardinals lineup can do some real damage if they can string hits together.

Masataka Yoshida, OF Boston Red Sox

Another FanDuel play as Yoshida is hitting cleanup for the Red Sox today and priced under $3,000. He flashed some power during the World Baseball Classic and the fact that he is already hitting in the middle of the Red Sox order speaks to what the team thinks of his ability to drive in runs.
