Underdog Fantasy MLB Picks - Best Picks & Plays for September 22: George Kirby Set To Dominate Oakland
Two 24-year-old right-handers top my list of favorite MLB player props over on Underdog Fantasy for Thursday, September 22. It’s hard to ignore the numbers that are in their favor, not to mention some lucrative matchups against the strikeout-prone Oakland Athletics and Pittsburgh Pirates. George Kirby and Hayden Wesneski have plenty of swing-and-miss in their arsenals and I like these two young right-handers to have big strikeout days against their respective opponents. There could be some weather impacting today’s slate, potentially in Pittsburgh, so keep an eye on any weather updates around the park(s). George Kirby OVER 5.5 Strikeouts
Oakland has the second-highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching over the last two weeks, not to mention the fifth-lowest OPS. He has six or more strikeouts in each of his last two starts, and here are his strikeout numbers against Oakland this season: 9, 9, and 6. He’s been good of late, he’s carved up Oakland this season, and that Oakland offense has been brutal of late. Take the over with Kirby, and don’t overthink it.
Hayden Wesneski OVER 4.5 Strikeouts
Wesneski showcased decent strikeout numbers in the minors, and he’s well over one strikeout per inning through his first three big league starts. Outside of just three strikeouts against the Giants back on 9/11, he has starts with seven and eight strikeouts this season, and he should fare quite well against this Pittsburgh team. The Pirates have the eighth-highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitchers over the last two weeks, and I really like that Wesneski has been tough on lefties through his first couple of starts, because the majority of Pittsburgh’s most impactful bats against righties are left-handed, so if Wesneski can dominate them, watch out!
