Despite a day of Major League Baseball action that features prominent aces like Justin Verlander, Max Fried, and Robbie Ray on the mound, it’s two other right-handers that have intriguing lines that caught my eye. After crunching the numbers and analyzing the matchups, I have uncovered my two favorite MLB player props of the day, again, both of which involve right-handed pitchers. We’ll look to Michael Wacha on the best side of his splits in a great matchup, and then look to Dustin May against a San Francisco offense that is striking out at one of the highest clips in Major League Baseball of late. After a perfect 2-for-2 day yesterday, we’ll look to continue the momentum with today’s Underdog Fantasy plays of the day, featuring my two favorite MLB player props.

Underdog Fantasy MLB Player Props September 16

Michael Wacha - OVER 17.5 Pitching Outs

At home this year, Wacha has a 1.79 ERA and .182 BAA, so when he pitches at home, he’s on my radar. He gets a good matchup against a Kansas City squad that has the league’s lowest batting average (.199), on-base percentage (.272), and wRC+ (65) against right-handed pitching over the last two weeks. Wacha has logged at least six innings pitched in each of his last four starts, and in six of his last eight. If we look just at his home starts of late, he’s logged at least six innings in three straight home outings. Wacha is getting through six tonight, so take the over.

Dustin May - OVER 5 Strikeouts

Since returning to the mound he has five or more strikeouts in just two of his four starts, but he does have a nine-strikeout performance against Miami this season. Despite lower strikeout numbers in recent starts, he’s still generating a healthy number of whiffs, and the Giants can’t get out of their own way at the dish right now. Over the last two weeks, they have the third-highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching, coming in at 27.6 percent! I’m going with my gut here and chasing the over.
