Underdog Fantasy MLB Picks - Best Picks & Plays for July 14: Carlos Rodon Continues Home Dominance
When looking at the board of MLB player props over on Underdog Fantasy today, a couple of southpaws have some intriguing lines. Plus, we're targeting a right-handed hitter in Colorado. Fresh off being snubbed from the 2022 MLB All-Star Game, but then being added as a replacement for Milwaukee’s Josh Hader, Carlos Rodón will look to continue his early season dominance at home against the Brewers. The San Francisco Giants lefty has double-digit strikeout upside every time he toes the rubber and that’s firmly in play against a strikeout-prone Milwaukee squad. Meanwhile, C.J. Cron has excellent BvP numbers against Blake Snell and should be popular in MLB DFS lineups as well. Plus, when a game is being played at Coors Field, Cron is always on the radar for player props and daily fantasy baseball lineups. Lastly, the Los Angeles Angels strike out a ton and Framber Valdez has had some solid strikeout numbers against them this season. MLB Player Props Underdog Fantasy July 14
Carlos Rodón – OVER 8.0 Strikeouts
The Brewers have the seventh-highest strikeout rate against lefties this season and whenever Rodon is pitching at Oracle, we need to take notice. At home this year, the Giants' southpaw has a 12.92 K/9 and a 35.4% strikeout rate. Rodon has at least eight strikeouts in four of his last six outings, and many sportsbooks have his line of 7.5 in the -130 to -140 range at the time of writing. I’m chasing the over here but if this can drop to 7.5, I’d feel even better about it.
C.J. Cron – OVER 1.5 Total Bases
Blake Snell has pitched well of late, I will give him that. However, Cron is 7-for-15 with a home run in his career against Snell and the Colorado first baseman is a career .275 hitter against southpaws. Sure, that mark is only at .242 this year, but this game is at Coors Field and it’s a different story there. This year, Cron is hitting .350 with 15 home runs in 177 at-bats at home – good for a 1.064 OPS and .445 wOBA. At home versus lefties this year, he’s hitting .302 with a .979 OPS and .402 wOBA. Meanwhile, in four career starts at Coors Field, Snell has a 6.50 ERA and a 1.78 WHIP. Give me the over with Cron.
Framber Valdez – OVER 6.5 Strikeouts
The Angels strike out a ton and over the last 14 days, they have a 34.1% strikeout rate. That number is insane! Valdez isn’t the biggest strikeout guy on the mound, but the Angels are playing everyone up in that department – and Valdez has actually been at his best on the road this year. He’s notched at least seven strikeouts in three of his last five starts, and he has a 1.76 ERA on the road this year. Valdez already has a 13-strikeout game against the Angels this season and in three total starts against them, he has 22 strikeouts in 17 innings of work – good for an 11.6 K/9, which is his highest mark against any team this season. While I like this prop overall, I’m more confident in the first two featured here. Still, come on, how do we not continue to attack the Angels in terms of pitcher strikeout props?
