Jose Ramirez MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI

It hasn’t been the same MVP-caliber season as we’re used to seeing from Jose Ramirez. Still, the Cleveland Guardians’ star is worth backing in the right matchups. There’s an opportunity today against Chicago White Sox starter Anthony Kay. 

Kay brings in a 4.01 ERA and 1.35 WHIP this season. He’s been pitching fairly well lately, but the left-hander’s 4.99 xERA (17th percentile) and .262 xBA (22nd) are worrisome underlying metrics. Notably, Kay is allowing a .277 batting average and .833 OPS to right-handed batters. Conversely, he’s held lefties to a .195 average and .549 OPS. 

Those splits play right into Ramirez’s strengths as a switch-hitter. He’s been notably better against lefty pitchers, batting .295 with a .922 OPS. On the flip side, Ramirez has just a .210 batting average and .642 OPS against righties. This is a good spot to back him to do some damage.

Luis Arraez MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI

Since being dealt at the MLB trade deadline, Luis Arraez has made an immediate impact in the Philadelphia Phillies’ lineup. In his first 3 games, he went 5-for-13 with a pair of multi-hit performances, a home run, and an RBI in each game. After going 0-for-4 last night, let’s back Arraez to rebound in Saturday’s matchup. 

Max Scherzer gets the start for the Toronto Blue Jays. The veteran has a 7.92 ERA and 1.63 WHIP over 8 starts this year. He’s actually had a pair of solid outings since returning from the IL, but a shaky start could be coming on the road against this dangerous Philadelphia lineup. He allowed 5 runs to the Phillies in June. 

As for Arraez, he’s hitting .330 with an .825 OPS against right-handed pitching this season. He’s also batting .363 with an .875 OPS in home games with both San Francisco and Philly. Scherzer, meanwhile, is allowing a .333 batting average and 1.039 OPS to left-handed hitters so far this year. The hits should be there for Arraez, but he also has increased RBI opportunities in the Phillies’ clean-up spot.
