Underdog Fantasy MLB Picks: Saturday, 6/27

Foster Griffin MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 6.5 Strikeouts

Foster Griffin is quietly putting together a solid season for the Washington Nationals. The left-hander has a 3.15 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 16 starts this year. His 89 strikeouts are also 25th in the majors among qualified starting pitchers.

Let’s back Griffin to rack up some strikeouts in today’s matchup. The Baltimore Orioles have a 25.1% strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season, which is the 5th-highest mark in the league. Over the three weeks, the O’s have an even-higher 28.6% K rate vs. southpaws (3rd-highest in MLB).

It sets up well for Griffin, who has a 25.5% strikeout rate on the road while averaging 5.8 punchouts per road start. The Nats’ lefty also has six or more strikeouts in five of his last nine outings. Plus, he boasts a stellar 1.78 ERA over his last six starts.

Freddie Freeman MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

Let’s fade San Diego Padres starter Randy Vasquez with our second pick. The right-hander has a 4.17 ERA this season with some shaky outings lately. He has a 6.91 ERA and 6.73 FIP over his last six starts. Plus, Vasquez’s 6.51 xERA this year doesn’t offer much confidence either.

It could be a rough day for Vasquez against the Los Angeles Dodgers’ lineup. In particular, Freddie Freeman can do some damage in this matchup. The LA first baseman is batting .311 with a .944 OPS against right-handed pitching this season. He’s also hitting .313 with a .987 OPS on the road.

Freeman is also hitting well recently. He boasts a .325 batting average and .982 OPS over the last 21 games. This stretch includes two or more combined hits, runs, and RBI in 14 of the last 21 games. It also helps that Freeman is 3-for-7 with a pair of doubles against Vasquez in his career.
