Emerson Hancock MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 4.5 Strikeouts 

It’s been an up-and-down season for Emerson Hancock, who has a 3.60 ERA and 1.02 WHIP for the Seattle Mariners this year. There have been some great outings and a few shaky starts as well. In Sunday’s matchup against the Cleveland Guardians, the strikeout upside is there for the right-hander. 

The Guardians have a lofty 28.9% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching over the past two weeks, which is the second-highest in baseball during this stretch. Cleveland also has a 25.0% K rate vs. righties over the last month (fourth-highest in MLB). It sets up well for Hancock to rack up punchouts. 

Hancock boasts a career-best 24.2% strikeout rate this year. He’s struck out five or more batters in 8-of-15 starts so far. The ceiling is higher in this matchup, though, especially since Hancock’s 5.7% walk rate is at an elite level (88th-percentile in MLB). Plus, he had nine strikeouts against Cleveland earlier this season. 


Donovan Walton MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

Donovan Walton has been a surprising bright spot in the Los Angeles Angels’ lineup lately. The 32-year-old journeyman might be having a breakout season with his fourth team in five years. He’s hitting .329 with an .885 OPS across 26 games. 

Walton is in a favorable matchup on Sunday to keep it going. Athletics starter Aaron Civale has a 4.88 ERA and 1.58 WHIP this year. He’s also gotten rocked lately, with an ugly 11.25 ERA over his last four starts. Plus, the right-hander struggled against lefty hitters, allowing a .327 batting average and .972 OPS in the split. 

Walton, meanwhile, is crushing right-handed pitching. He boasts a .343 batting average and .898 OPS against righties. He’s also batting .438 with a 1.281 OPS over his last 10 games, including two or more hits+runs+RBI in seven of the 10 contests.
