Cade Cavalli MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 5.5 Strikeouts

Cade Cavalli made headlines this past week for multiple reasons. The Washington Nationals’ starter was served a seven-game suspension for his role in a brawl with the Boston Red Sox. However, he also struck out 13 batters in that start. Let’s count on him racking up Ks once again today. 

Cavalli will get the start for Washington on Sunday as he appeals his suspension. As long as he’s on the mound, there is clear strikeout upside in this matchup. The Pirates have a 28.2% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching over the past week, which is the third-highest in baseball. They also have a 25.8% K rate vs. righties over the last month (also third-most in MLB). 

As for Cavalli, he brings in a solid 25.7% strikeout rate this season, which ranks in the 72nd MLB percentile. His 10.16 K/9 rate is also a notable increase from last year. He’s struck out six or more hitters in six of his last nine starts. Plus, the right-hander has shown seven or more strikeout upside in seven of his last 13 outings. 

Pete Crow-Armstrong MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 7.5 Fantasy Points

Pete Crow-Armstrong was named to his second straight All-Star team on Saturday. The Chicago Cubs’ outfielder is having a strong first half, headlined by a .907 OPS, which is tied for 6th-best in the majors. He’s in a good spot to be productive again in today’s matchup. 

St. Louis Cardinals starter Matthew Liberatore brings in a rough 5.33 ERA and 1.55 WHIP this season. He’s given up four or more runs in six of his last nine starts, with a poor 6.64 ERA during this span. The southpaw also has a 5.24 ERA on the road. He’s especially had issues against left-handed batters, allowing a .296 average and .909 OPS in the split. 

Crow-Armstrong, meanwhile, has been swinging a hot bat for an extended stretch now. He has a .397 batting average and 1.285 OPS over his last 30 games. He’s hitting for power and reeling off multi-hit games on the regular. The Cubs’ star outfielder also owns a .292 batting average and .867 OPS against left-handed pitchers this year. It also helps that he’s hitting .319 with a 1.006 OPS at home.
