MLB Weather Updates
Washington Nationals vs San Francisco Giants
Wind is blowing out 15-to-20 MPH but as we've noted, the way this ball park is designed, wind doesn't generally make that much of an impact.
St. Louis Cardinals vs Chicago Cubs
Wind is blowing in at 5-to-10 MPH today. Little to no impact here.
DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts
Despite there being nine games on today's slate there are only a handful of quality starting pitchers to use on DraftKings so spending up on two starters seems like the likely way to go with Clayton Kershaw being the top play in his matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers. From a hitter perspective it is all about the game stacks. The Yankees having been raking against the A's this series and we expect that to continue here today against southpaw Kyle Mueller.

Favorite Starters to Use for DFS Lineups
Clayton Kershaw, Los Angeles Dodgers
Brewers this season are the worst team in baseball against left-handed pitching with a 30.7% strikeout rate. They also rank 27th in batting average, 30th in wOBA, 30th in ISO and 30th in slugging percentage. So, yeah, this should be a dominating performance from Kershaw who, prior to his most recent outing, was on a three start stretch where he allowed only one earned run over 20 innings while striking out 24.
Eduardo Rodriguez, Detroit Tigers
This is quite literally the best we have ever seen Eduardo Rodriguez pitch. The talent was always there, he has shown elite flashes at times during his career but nothing like this. Over his seven starts this season he has allowed just nine earned runs with seven of those nine runs coming in his first two starts. Since, he has allowed just two runs over his last 34.2 innings…..impressive. He faces the Guardians today who already had to deal with E-Rod this season as he tossed eight shutout innings while striking out 10.
Merrill Kelly, Arizona Diamondbacks
If you need to save a little bit of cash from Rodriguez today then Kelly should be your guy. Over his seven starts this season he has a 2.75 ERA but maybe more impressive is the 40 strikeouts over 39.1 innings. Kelly hasn't always profiled as a strikeout pitcher but he just had 10 strikeouts against a Nationals team that has one of the lowest strikeout rates in baseball this season. The Marlins struggle offensively, though they do have some power, as we saw last night from Jorge Soler, but I think this play is pretty safe.

Favorite Hitters to Use for DFS Lineups
Anthony Rizzo, 1B New York Yankees
You may see this and wonder why I am looking at Rizzo when a lefty is on the mound and for that all I have to say to you is that it hasn't mattered this season. Rizzo is hitting .367 with an OPS of .972 against southpaws this season. Rizzo is also raking in Yankee Stadium, hitting .361 with an OPS of 1.058. Now go and look at A's starter Kyle Muller and despite being a lefty, he is allowing a .360 average with an OPS of .934 to left-handed hitters. 1+2=3. Let's not overthink this one.
Lane Thomas, OF Washington Nationals
Listen, the Nationals are a team that does not hit for a ton of power, I will admit that, but they put the ball in play a lot, they do not strike out and they hit left handed pitching. Today the Giants are shipping Sean Manaea out to the mound who has been one of the worst pitchers in baseball this season. Lane Thomas has been a favorite play of mine since last season when it comes to lefty matchup and that has continued to this season where he is hitting .361 with an OPS of .995 against left-handed pitching. His price is just insanely too cheap.
Mookie Betts, 2B/OF, Los Angeles Dodgers
I've been hammering the fact that all the underlying numbers for Wade Miley suggest he is due to implode and yet he keeps sort of pitching his way through it.
I say that trend ends today and therefore, sign me up for some Mookie Betts who is hitting .308 with an OPS of 1.015 over the last 10 games with three home runs. Two of those three home runs have come over the last three games and on the year Betts is hitting .294 with an OPS of .957 against southpaws. Even better, for those BvP truthers out there, Betts is 9-for-16 with four doubles and a home run in his career off Wade Miley.
