MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Starting Pitchers

Cristopher Sanchez (PHI)

Analysis: It's been a bad second half for the Braves against left-handed pitching posting an 89 wRC+ and now one of the best lefty hurlers in baseball takes the mound. Sanchez has averaged 18.4 DKP/game in two starts vs. Atlanta this year and has 13 Ks in 12 IP. This is one of the league's best pitchers.

Hunter Brown (HOU)

Analysis: It's been an elite stretch for Hunter Brown and he gets a good matchup against the White Sox, who strike out a lot against right-handed pitching. The White Sox have a 94 wRC+ and a 25.1% K-rate since the break vs. RHP. In 26.1 IP in September, Brown pitched to a 2.73 ERA, held opponents to .202 AVG, and the K-rate has been up to 34.2%.

Max Fried (NYY)

Analysis: Can the Red Sox save their season? Their offense has been pretty anemic since the All-Star break posting a 90 wRC+ vs. LHP since the break and could be without Roman Anthony in this game. They've also struck out 23.5% of the time vs. LHP. Love Fried today at this price.

Sean Burke (CWS)

Analysis: Sean Burke has been back to early season form of late allowing 1 ER or fewer in three straight outings and four of his last five. It's important for Burke to get going in this one because how much the White Sox bullpen was used in G1. Houston's offense is pretty good posting a 107 wRC+ since the break but they do strike out nearly 23% of the time.

Tyler Mahle (ATL)

Analysis: The Phillies have been a bad offense against right-handed pitching this year and they're getting a LOT of ownership. I'm OK with using Philly bats, but I prefer Tyler Mahle. Philly has an 89 wRC+, which ranks 24th in baseball vs. RHP since the ASB. Since the break, Mahle has pitched to a 2.54 ERA while holding opponents to .217 AVG, along with a 23.1% K-rate.

Fernando Tatis (2B/OF, SD) & Manny Machado (3B, SD)

Analysis: Kevin Gausman has typically been reverse splits and that's been no different this year. Righties have a .190 ISO and .331 wOBA vs. him and Tatis is on fire (.200 xISO, .373 xwOBA vs. RHP) and Machado (.196 ISO, 25 HR) are stepping in the box to greet him.

Ben Rice (C/1B, NYY) & Luis Garcia Jr. (1B, NYY)

Analysis: It's hard to ignore the fact that the Yankees are going to spam lefties at Sonny Gray tonight and over the L30 days, Gray's been a pretty lucky pitcher against lefties (238 pitches, .191 xISO, .332 xwOBA) and that's bad news against Rice & Garcia. Rice has a .305 ISO & .407 wOBA while Garcia has a .267 ISO & .367 wOBA vs. RHP.

Bryce Harper (OF, PHI)

Analysis: The only bugaboo on Tyler Mahle's resume with the Braves is lefty power and we have that with Harper and Schwarber to some extent as well. Harper's raked against righties this year posting a .287 ISO, .424 wOBA, and 25 HR.

Yordan Alvarez (OF, HOU)

Analysis: Arguably the best hitter on the planet in a split advantage against Sean Burke, who's a good pitcher, but does have some struggles against lefties. Lefties have a .175 ISO against Burke and Alvarez has a .312 ISO, .336 xISO, .460 wOBA, and .454 xwOBA against right-handed hurlers.

MLB DFS Value Hitters

Ty France (1B, SD) & Xander Bogaerts (SS, SD)

Analysis: Ty France has had a fantastic year against righties, posting a .211 ISO, .375 wOBA, and 16 HR vs. RHP this year. Bogaerts homered in G1 and does have decent expected numbers vs. RHP (.138 xISO, .324 xwOBA). Bogaerts has cooked all September hitting .315 with a .905 OPS (best month of the year).

Ceddanne Rafaela (OF, BOS) & Jahmai Jones (OF, BOS)

Analysis: The Red Sox have a tough task in front of them with Max Fried opposing them but they do have two batters that have good numbers vs. LHP. Rafaela has a .208 ISO and .348 wOBA while Jahmai Jones has a .193 ISO and .329 wOBA.

Spencer Jones (OF, NYY) & George Lombard (SS, NYY)

Analysis: The Yankees have some really high ceiling players at very cheap price points. Over his last 10 games, Lombard has a .929 OPS with 4 HR & 10 RBI while posting three hits in his playoff debut. Jones has a .747 OPS and 110 wRC+ in September.

Lucas Spence (OF, HOU)

Analysis: Spencer has had a whirlwind of a big league debut as he's posted a .351 ISO, .367 wOBA, and 4 HR vs. RHP through his first 44 plate appearances. Spence is in a great spot against a pitcher who struggles vs. left-handed power.
