Published: Sep 04, 2025
Welcome to the Fantasy Alarm MLB DFS Playbook for Thursday, September 4th!Â
Welcome to Thursday! The NFL season may be kicking off today, but we are still focused on the baseball season here and ready for another great day of September baseball. We have a smaller slate today with only a 5-game main slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 6:40 PM ET. The only game not on today’s slate is the Philadelphia Phillies vs. the Milwaukee Brewers. With a small slate, there are fewer options than usual, but our expert analysis is here to guide you through the top pitchers, value plays, and stackable offenses to target.
Whether chasing big GPP prizes or grinding cash games, we’ve got you covered with insights tailored to today’s matchups. Let’s jump right into the key plays and strategies to dominate the slate!
Â
This season's MLB DFS picks and playbook will consist of a pitcher and hitter core players section with written analysis, player pool grid and core stacks section.
The core player section should be used as a starting point for all lineups, you may not be able to use all players in the same lineup, but those players should be the building blocks for you on a given night.
The player pool grid will feature both players from the core player section along with additional plays to help you build a complete lineup. The grid will be broken into top priced players, mid-priced players and value tier players.
The stacks section will bring you are favorite lineups stacks for the day and which players we would look to include in those stacks based on matchups and pricing.

Recommended MLB DFS Starting Pitchers
Let's get into today's core pitching plays for our DFS lineups
Core MLB DFS Pitchers
Paul Skenes, Pittsburgh Pirates
Not only is Paul Skenes arguably the best pitcher in baseball, but the options today are so limited that it makes it really hard not to start him today. This is the first time all season I am only giving two pitchers in my recommended starters because that is how little I trust the pitching slate today. I can see some arguments for starting Carlos Rodon and Cristian Javier, but I don’t trust either enough to put them here, so I am going to trust the ridiculous stuff of Skenes and find other ways to save money.Â
Blake Snell, Los Angeles Dodgers
In his four starts since returning in August, Blake Snell has 34 strikeouts in 28.1 innings with a 2.54 ERA. Yes, he still walks too many batters, but the strikeouts have been ridiculous, with two 8-strikeout games and another 10-strikeout game. He gets a great matchup today against Pittsburgh, and I think he is a must-start.Â

Recommended MLB DFS Hitters
Let's check out today's core plays to build our lineups around.
Core MLB DFS Hitters
Tampa Bay Rays
With the smaller slate today, I really am just looking to target a few different teams. The first one I really like is the Tampa Bay Rays. They have been playing great lately, and that home ballpark is just a great place to hit. I am looking to stack a lot of Rays today in this matchup against Logan Allen, with my favorites being Junior Caminero, Yandy Diaz, and Chandler Simpson. You could look at Brandon Lowe and Josh Lowe as well, but I am less excited for them against a lefty.Â
Kansas City Royals
The Royals have one of the best matchups today, getting to face Kyle Hendricks, who doesn’t strike anybody out and gives up way too much contact. I really like a lot of Royals players today and could see doing a big Royals stack with the best options being Bobby Witt, Vinnie Pasquantino, Maikel Garcia, Salvador Perez, and Mike Yazstremski.Â
Los Angeles Angels
The last team I really like to stack today is the other side of the Royals game with the Los Angeles Angels. Noah Cameron has had a bit of a homerun problem and also doesn’t strikeout many guys, and gives up a lot of contact. He just gave up 6 earned runs in 5 innings against the White Sox. My favorite Angels to target today are Taylor Ward, Zach Neto, Jo Addell, Logan O’Hoppe, and Luis Rengifo.Â
