2023 Fantasy Baseball MLB Injury Report Week 4

Updated: April 21

MLB Injury Updates Hitters

Giancarlo Stanton, OF, New York Yankees (Hamstring)

Stanton suffered a pretty major hamstring strain, and we should expect him out for an extended period of time. We don’t know for sure when to expect him back at this point. Aaron Hicks will likely draw more starts in the outfield.

Corey Seager, SS, Texas Rangers (Hamstring)

Seager has suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain and will miss the next four weeks, according to Rangers GM Chris Young. The Texas shortstop pulled the hammy back on Tuesday while running out a double and he's now officially been placed on the Injured List. Rangers managers Bruce Bochy indicated that they will play Josh H. Smith at shortstop and keep Marcus Semien at second base while Seager is sidelined.

Yoan Moncada, 3B, Chicago White Sox (Back)

Moncada has missed a few games with a sore back, but, there’s a chance he can make it back onto the field over the next week. Jake Burger has been very helpful at the plate over his last few games as he’s received more playing time.

Hanser Alberto, 2B, Chicago White Sox (Quad)

Alberto is on the injured list with a strained quad and the White Sox called up Adam Haseley to take his spot on the roster. Lenyn Sosa will also help out at second base.

Orlando Arcia, SS, Atlanta Braves (Wrist)

Arcia has a fractured wrist and he’ll miss a few weeks of action. Vaughn Grissom will start in his place until he’s ready to return. It wouldn’t be shocking to see the Braves keep Grissom up in the majors.

Will Smith, C, Los Angeles Dodgers (Concussion)

Smith will need at least a few more games to recover and we'll have to see if he's ready to return to action at the beginning of next week. Austin Barnes and Austin Wynns are available to continue filling in behind the plate.

Chris Taylor SS Los Angeles Dodgers (Side)

Taylor hasn't been able to play for the last few days due to an injury to his side, but it's not looking like he'll be put on the injured list and could return to the Dodgers starting lineup their next game.

Chas McCormick, OF, Houston Astros (Vision)

McCormick has been banged up a bit and he was having issues seeing clearly and now he has a sore back and he landed on the injured list. With the injuries the Astros have in the outfield, they'll need Jake Meyers, David Hensley and Corey Julks to fill in.

Joc Pederson, OF, San Francisco Giants (Wrist)

Pederson’s wrist continues to swell, and he was placed on the injured list. Blake Sabol and Thairo Estrada can help in the outfield if needed.

Bryce Johnson, OF, San Francisco Giants (Concussion)

Johnson suffered a concussion last week and he’ll be on the injured list for at least a few more games but could come back soon and draw starts with Pederson out.

Edmundo Sosa, 2B, Philadelphia Phillies (Back)

Sosa is dealing with a sore back and he may need to sit for another game. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Amed Rosario, SS, Cleveland Guardians (Back)

Rosario is day-to-day with a sore back and missed his last game. We’ll have to wait and see if he misses more time. Gabriel Arias is available to start in his place if needed.

Ji-man Choi, 1B, Pittsburgh Pirates (Achilles)

It wasn't a good sign when we heard that Choi needed more tests done on his foot and now he'll miss the next two months with a badly strained achilles.

Jorge Mateo SS Baltimore Orioles (Hip)

Mateo is dealing with a sore hip and there's a chance that he'll have to sit out even though he had an off day to recover on Thursday. The Orioles can have Gunnar Henderson fill in for him.

Starling Marte OF New York Mets (Neck)

There's a good chance that Marte is back in the Mets lineup this weekend, but he continues to deal with nagging neck soreness and it's something the Mets will have to continue to watch because the pain isn't going away. The Mets can continue rotating Jeff McNeil and Mark Canha in the outfield and have Tommy Pham as well if they ever want to put him in the field.

Tim Locastro OF New York Mets (Back)

Locastro's back has been bothering him and when the Mets put him on the injured list, Brett Baty took his spot on the roster and there's a good chance he stays up in the majors even when Locastro is healthy.

Logan O'Hoppe C Los Angeles Angels (Shoulder)

We're awaiting test results after O'Hoppe left Thursday's game with an injured shoulder. With Max Stassi still out, Matt Thaiss will likely need to fill in for him for the next couple of weeks if O'Hoppe is put on the injured list.

Garrett Mitchell OF Milwaukee Brewers (Shoulder)

Mitchell is on the injured list with an injured shoulder and we won't see him for a couple of weeks. Joey Wiemer and Blake Perkins are fill-in options for Mitchell in the Brewers outfield.

Ramon Laureano OF Oakland Athletics (Groin)

Laureano strained his groin and the Athletics put him on the injured list. The A's have multiple outfielders hurt and Conner Capel and Tyler Wade can help fill in.

Brent Rooker OF Oakland Athletics (Hamstring)

Rooker is dealing with a sore hamstring and didn't start in the A's last game and if he needs more time to recover, Tyler Wade could see another start in the outfield.

Luis Campusano C San Diego Padres (Thumb)

Campusano sprained his thumb and the Padres put him on the injured list. Austin Nola will continue to start behind the plate.

MLB Injury Updates Pitchers

Jacob deGrom SP Texas Rangers (Wrist)

Anytime deGrom injures himself and is removed from a start, investors get nervous because of his injury history and he hurt his wrist in his last start. The good news coming from the Rangers beat reporters is that he won't need to be put on the injured list and when his spot in the rotation comes up again, he should be able to take the field.

Jeffrey Springs, SP, Tampa Bay Rays (Elbow)

The worst fears have come true and Springs season looks to be done as reports are out that he will get Tommy John surgery and we won't see him back on the mound for about a year.

Ryan Thompson, RP, Tampa Bay Rays (Back)

Thompson is on the injured list with a muscle injury in his back and we won’t see him take the field for at least a few weeks.

Zach Eflin SP Tampa Bay Rays (Back)

Eflin has been on the injured list for the last few weeks and new reports say that he has recovered from having a sore back and we should see him back on the hill in the next few days for the Rays.

Brandon Woodruff, SP, Milwaukee Brewers (Shoulder)

Woodruff is on the injured list with a shoulder injury and we’re hearing that the strain is worse than we thought, and he could be looking at a multi-week absence. We don’t know at this point when to expect him back on the mound.

Kris Bubic, SP, Kansas City Royals (Arm)

Bubic has a strained arm and the Royals put him on the injured list and he’ll miss the next few weeks of action. Josh Taylor took his spot on the roster.

Ryan Tepera, RP, Los Angeles Angels (Shoulder)

Tepera is experiencing swelling in his shoulder and the Angels put him on the injured list and we won’t see him pitch for a few weeks.

Chris Martin, RP, Boston Red Sox (Shoulder)

Martin is experiencing swelling in his shoulder and the Red Sox put him on the injured list and he’ll be sidelined for at least the next few weeks. John Schreiber could get more opportunities to post holds.

Alex Wood SP San Francisco Giants (Hamstring)

Wood was put on the injured list and from what we're hearing he'll likely need more than one stint and he could potentially miss a month of action with an injured hamstring. Ross Stripling is an option to take Wood's place in the Giants rotation.

Jameson Taillon SP Chicago Cubs (Groin)

aillon will miss some time with a strained groin and these injuries can take a little longer to recover from so Taillon might need additional time off. We'll have to see what the Cubs ultimately decide to do with his spot in the rotation moving forward, but Javier Assad did get to start on Thursday.

Kenta Maeda SP Minnesota Twins (Ankle)

Maeda got hit with a comebacker in the leg and left his last start with an injured ankle. Tests revealed no major damage and he could just deal with soreness for the next few days and might not need to miss his next start which is a good sign.

Trevor Rogers SP Miami Marlins (Forearm)

After three innings of work, Rogers was taken out of the game with a sore forearm and we'll have to see if the pain subsides before his next start early next week. For now, he's day-to-day.

Cal Quantrill SP Cleveland Guardians (Leg)

Quantrill was nailed by a comebacker in the leg and had to leave his start. So far, it's not looking like Quantrill will be placed on the injured list and there's a chance he could be active for his next scheduled start. We're waiting on more updates from the team.

Michael Grove SP Los Angeles Dodgers (Groin)

Grove strained his groin and left his last start after pitching three innings and it wouldn't be surprising seeing him put on the injured list in the next day or two.

Lucas Luetge RP Atlanta Braves (Arm)

The swelling in Luetge's arm concerned the Braves enough that they put him on the injured list earlier this week and Atlanta will have to rely on other relievers until the swelling goes down in his arm.
