It’s been a pretty good season for Lucas Giolito, but has it been largely luck? He has a 3.63 ERA but a 5.27 xERA, 4.39 xFIP, and a 4.46 SIERA on the year. Lefties have a .199 ISO but a .248 xISO and a .318 wOBA but a .369 xwOBA. Talking about luck, Ben Rice is the reverse of Giolito and has had awful luck this year. But the luck is turning around for him lately. He’s hitting .291 with a .902 OPS, .236 ISO, and .385 wOBA in August. Against right-handed pitching this year, Rice has a .226 ISO but a .288 xISO, .365 wOBA but a .428 xwOBA. This is a great spot for Rice.

Randal Grichuk’s career started back in 2014, and in every season since, he’s had an ISO of .194 or higher. He has massive power against southpaws; it’s just what he does. Even this year, which has been a down year, he has a .475 SLG%, .230 ISO, .255 xISO, .324 wOBA, and .371 xwOBA. He’s hitting fifth today and faces Patrick Corbin today who’s really struggling. He’s been unable to finish five innings in three straight starts, and against righties this year, he’s allowing a .278 AVG, .338 wOBA, .169 ISO, and .176 xISO.
