Hitters
Play of the Day: Mike Trout-- Trout went deep yesterday for the third time over his last five games. He is batting over .400 with nine rbi’s over his nine game hit streak. Bundy pitched well in his last start after a few extra days of rest, but has allowed six or more runs in two of his last four starts.
Top Play: Willson Contreras-- Contreras went deep twice yesterday, tying Stanton for the most home runs since the break with 10. Contreras is 8-17 with five HR’s and 11 RBI’s over his last four games.Moore has allowed at least one home run over his last five home starts.
Value Play: Jedd Gyorko- Gyorko provides salary relief if not paying up at third base tonight. Jedd has struggled lately, and still looking for his first XBH of the month. He’s in a nice spot tonight vs Kennedy, as Jedd is 2-3 with a hr against. Kennedy is 3-5 with a 7.20 ERA in eight starts vs the Cards.
Value Play: Kole Calhoun-- Calhoun makes for a nice salary relief play, as well has been hot batting behind Trout lately. Kole is 7-14 with two doubles, and only one strikeout so far this month. Bundy only has four quality starts over his last ten starts.
Pitchers
Play of the Day: Max Scherzer --Scherzer left his last start early after blasting his first hr, but states he is fine heading into his rematch with O’Grady and the Marlins. Scherzer had a no hitter going into the 8th inning while striking out 11 in his last full outing vs the Marlins. He has at least nine K’s in 10 of his last 11 starts outside of his last game when he left early. Scherzer is a must play for cash games tonight.
Top Play: Jake Arrieta- Arrieta checks in as the second highest priced pitcher after Scherzer tonight in a matchup vs the Giants. Jake is 2-1 with a 2.05 ERA through four starts after the break, holding opponents to a .154 batting average. Arrieta is 4-2 with a 1.82 ERA in six career starts vs the Giants.
Pivot Play: Ervin Santana -- Santana is coming off his fifth complete game of the season, which is more than any other team this season. The Twins are currently slight favorites over the Brewers tonight, but Santana is just 0-2 with a 7.41 ERA over three career starts vs the Brewers. He works best for gpp’s tonight, as a pivot off of the top options.
GPP Play: Trevor Williams-- Williams is the cheapest pitcher tonight, but the Pirates check in as a nice favorite vs the Tigers. Williams has allowed two runs or less over his last four home starts. Williams won’t provide you with double digit strikeouts tonight, but can get you the win, while allowing the ability to fit an extra bigger bat or two in your lineup.
