Welcome to the Playbook for Monday, April 3rd, 2017 (aka Second Opening Day).

 

There are 12 games on the docket for today. All teams who didn’t partake in yesterday’s action will be playing today throughout the day starting at 1:05 PM EST.

 

Here are the slates offered (currently) by the three major providers:

 

DraftKings - All day (12 games) // Early (9 games - 1:10 PM - 4:10 PM)
FanDuel - Early (9 games - 1:10 - 4:10 PM)

Yahoo! - All Day (12 games) // Late (7 games - 4:10 - 10:10) // Later (3 games - 7:10 - 10:10) // Super Late (2 games - 8:10 - 10:10)

Glaring Omissions
FanDuel is only offering a slate with the first nine games today. So, there are some players that aren’t profiled because they aren’t in play on FD. Here are some of the glaring ommissions from the Playbook and a quick explanation as to why. Corey Seager is coming off an injury and may not be up to full speed. You can do better at shortstop today. Manny Machado isn’t listed simply because there are so many other options at third base today and he’s super expensive. It could certainly be worth it with the wind blowing out at Camden Yards; Mike Trout is playing in Oakland, where fly balls go to die and the Angels are not included in the FanDuel slate. Mookie Betts is a great player but he was left off due to an unfamiliarity with Pirates starter Gerritt Cole and the fact that you’ll hamstring yourself with his price tag.  Of course, the disclaimer here is that we all know any of these players could have huge games - we’re just finding other options today.

 

Bargain Bin
There are a few players that I didn’t do a full write-up on, but like for value plays and may make it into my Optimal Lineups. They include:

 

C - J.T. Realmuto -- No. 1 value on FD

C - Cameron Rupp -- Provides solid value across the board

1B - Justin Smoak -- A Yahoo! GPP play

1B - Josh Bell -- A GPP play across the board

2B - Raul Mondesi -- A good value and GPP play on FD

3B - JaCoby Jones -- Add him in GPP across the board

SS - Jorge Polanco -- Value on FD

SS - Tim Anderson -- Value on FD

OF - Byron Buxton -- Value on DK and FD

 

Weather Report
Of course, you can’t build those lineups without some sort of idea with what’s going on weather-wise across the country.It appears the biggest threat of a potential rainout/delay is in the midwest, putting the following games in a bit of jeopardy:

 

Phillies @ Reds - 4:10 PM

Tigers @ White Sox - 4:10 PM -- Biggest threat

Royals @ Twins - 4:10 PM


*The wind is blowing out to left today at Oriole Park in Baltimore. That could lead to some runs in an already friendly hitters environment. Consider stacking up on O’s and/or Blue Jays today and knock down both Marco Estrada and Kevin Gausman a notch.

 

Update: FanDuel is now offering some late slates. We'll come out with some optimal lineups later in the day for these. 11:03 AM
