Clayton Kershaw, LAD – What? You said you never like to use pitchers just coming off the DL! Well, yes, that’s true as there’s always a concern regarding command, pitch counts and how many innings they’ll toss. I can’t say that those concerns are non-existent for Kershaw, but I’ll still chance using him against the Marlins who have a .279 wOBA with a 23.8-percent strikeout rate.
Madison Bumgarner, SF – Last time he faced the D-Backs, MadBum threw a complete game shutout with 14 strikeouts to give him 16 innings with just two runs allowed against them on the season. Now he faces them while they’re posting just a .281 wOBA with a 20-percent strikeout rate and a .112 ISO over the past week. Giddy up!
Yordano Ventura, KC – His numbers against the White Sox are pedestrian, but he also hasn’t faced them since mid-June and that last time out he gave up just one run over seven innings with 10 strikeouts. He’s now thrown five quality starts in his last six outings and the White Sox rank 25th in the league with a .307 wOBA and .710 OPS against righties this year. They’ve also put up a 24.6-percent strikeout rate over the past week, so Ventura looks like a solid play for the price.
Tanner Roark, WAS – He shut out the Phillies for seven innings back on August 29 and has given up just two runs over 28 innings against them this year and has a 22:8 K:BB over that span. And the timing couldn’t be better as they have a .271 wOBA with a 28-percent K-rate over the last seven days.
Blake Snell, TB – The Yankees are struggling with a .300 wOBA and 84 wRC+ against southpaws this season and have a .286 wOBA with a 23.3-percent strikeout rate over the last week. That price on Draft Kings is awfully tough to pass up.
Hisashi Iwakuma, SEA – His numbers against the A’s are decent – 3.26 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP over 19.1 innings – and over the last seven days Oakland has a .266 wOBA with just a .106 ISO. More than enough to convince me he’s a solid play on two-pitcher sites.
Joe Musgrove, HOU – Super high risk here going opposite Jon Lester and against the always-dangerous Cubs, but Chicago is having a huge offensive drought right now. We’re talking about a .265 wOBA with a .112 ISO over the past week. I would only use Musgrove in a low-cost GPP on a two-pitcher site though.
Tyler Chatwood, COL – The Padres destroyed Jeff Hoffman yesterday. Absolutely destroyed him. But can they hit that well two games in a row and do that against Chatwood? I’m saying no. I’m still dialed in to the Padres’ .278 wOBA and 28-percent strikeout rate over the past week.
Rubby De La Rosa, ARI – Taking down the win against MadBum is going to be the tallest of orders, but I’m still going to try out Rubby against a Giants team that has a .216 wOBA with a .104 ISO over the past week. I don’t need him to shut them out, but five innings with minimal damage and some decent Ks would suit me just fine on Aces and Draft Kings.
