Interesting slate of games today as there are a number of tasty looking, high-priced options, but still a number of good match-ups for those in the mid-to-lower tiers as well. Here’s a look at the data and where I am going with my games today.

Madison Bumgarner, SF – Top hurler on the board and facing the Phillies who not only rank dead last with a .282 wOBA against southpaws this year, but they’re also doing it with a 23-percent strikeout rate. Not to mention a .276 wOBA over the past week.

David Price, BOS – Use at your own risk as I seem to be a bit of a Price jinx. But I just love him facing a Mariners team that has a .269 wOBA with a 23.4-percent strikeout rate over the last seven days and ranks 20th in the league with a .316 wOBA against southpaws this season.

Jacob deGrom, NYM – After the Yankees trade deadline fire sale, I’m feeling like deGrom and the Mets will take full advantage and open up on, maybe not Masahiro Tanaka too much, but the bullpen for sure. It also helps that the Bombers have a 23rd-ranked .304 wOBA against right-handed pitching this year and a .286 wOBA with a 26.3-percent strikeout rate over the last seven days.

Gerrit Cole, PIT – Cole has looked strong over his last two starts with only two runs allowed, 13 strikeouts and a solid ground ball rate over 15 innings. Now he travels to Atlanta to face a Braves team that ranks last with a .290 wOBA against righties and a .286 wOBA at home.

Adam Wainwright, STL – He had some trouble with the Mets in his last outing, but the four starts before that were outstanding. He’ll get the Reds who just lost a big left-handed bat in Jay Bruce and have seen their wOBA drop to .290 over the last week. And yes, the Reds are still one of the worst-hitting teams against righties with a .303 wOBA and 21.8-percent strikeout rate.

Yordano Ventura, KC – Run support could be an issue, but the Rays have been atrocious over the past week with a .279 wOBA and a massively ugly 30.1-percent strikeout rate. If Ventura can keep the ball down and stay mentally focused, he should do just fine.

Zach Davies, MIL – I don’t care what the Padres did to Jimmy Nelson last night, I will keep going back to this well as the Padres continue to reside in the MLB crapper with a 29th-ranked .291 wOBA and 24.8-percent strikeout rate this season. They’ve been slightly below league-average with a .301 wOBA and 27-percent K-rate over the past week. Sun shines on a dog’s ass at least once and yesterday, the Padres were that dog’s ass.

R.A. Dickey, TOR – Not really a Dickey fan, but for the price and the fact that the Astros have a .258 wOBA with a 27.1-percent strikeout rate means that they are unsuccessfully hacking away at the plate. The win could be tough facing McCullers, but it’s worth a dart in a GPP.

Matt Andriese, TB – Could be a decent pitcher’s duel versus Ventura, but the Royals have looked ugly at the plate recently. Andriese isn’t a strikeout pitcher anyway, so the fact that the Royals don’t fan much is irrelevant here. It’s the Royals’ .248 wOBA over the last week that I’m eyeballing here. Great second starter option for a DK GPP.
