Johnny Cueto, SF – He’s got a 2.74 ERA at home, but what I like so much is the confidence and command with which he pitches at AT&T Park. He’s given up just 11 walks over 82 innings which is half of what he’s issued on the road in roughly the same number of innings. The Mets rank 25th in the league with a .304 wOBA against righties and that comes with a 22.1-percent strikeout rate.
Zack Greinke, ARI – The last time he faced the Padres was back in late May and things didn’t turn out so well for him. However, these are the post-trade deadline Padres and while they still rank dead-last in the league with a .294 wOBA (24.5% K-rate), they’ve been even worse lately with a .250 wOBA over the past seven days and have a 28.4-percent strikeout rate in that span.
Gerrit Cole, PIT – The Fish are drowning right now and Cole is looking to step on their heads and keep them down. They’ve posted just a .306 wOBA over the past seven days and that comes with a 22.4-percent strikeout rate and a below-average .148 ISO.
Masahiro Tanaka, NYY – The Angels are really struggling with their consistency at the plate and while they’re not striking out a ton, the .298 wOBA they’ve posted over the past week leaves little to be desired. Their 90 wRC+ over that span isn’t really impressing anyone either.
Tanner Roark, WAS – While the Braves were opening up offensively for a little while, they’ve, pretty much, gone back to sucking again lately. Their .300 wOBA over the past week is blah, their .399 slugging percentage in that span is underwhelming and we’re still talking abouyt a team that was a .294 wOBA against righties all year and have just a .126 ISO against them as well.
Adam Wainwright, STL – Kind of a GPP play here as the Phillies still rank just 28th in the league with a .299 wOBA against righties this year. They’ve been swinging the sticks pretty well lately so we’re not looking for vintage Wainwright, but if he can stifle some of their lefty bats, he should fare well.
James Shields, CHW – Now this one is a big ol’ dart but a good outing from him will certainly help you in a GPP. The A’s rank 26th in the league right now with a .302 wOBA against righties, there’s not a lot of hard contact and their 10.4-percent HR/FB also ranks right near the bottom of the league. Throw in the fact that Oakland has posted a 23.3-percent strikeout rate over the past week and maybe, just maybe, we have a winner here.
Matt Andriese, TB – Another big dart here as I am not a huge Andriese fan, but the Rangers have looked absolutely atrocious lately. Not only have they posted a .297 wOBA over the past week, but that also comes with a .361 slugging percentage and a very sad .119 ISO.
