2017 MLB Home Run Derby Stats & Predictions

While the game of fantasy baseball goes on pause for the MLB All Star break, it doesn’t mean we can’t find ways to enjoy the festivities. Sunday’s Futures Game was a great way to get a look at some of the youngsters we’ll be hearing from more in the second half of the season and then tonight’s Home Run Derby will give us an added look at some of the mashers. Brace yourself for some of the trendier statistics being used today such as exit velocity and launch angle as they are likely to be thrown around early and often. The difference here in the Derby, though, is that this is soft-tossing BP, not regular MLB hurlers attempting to strike out their opponents. We should see a general increase in many of the numbers tonight, so if you see some inane total for exit velocity or home run distance, don’t think we’re going to be seeing it much during the regular season. Of course, maybe if Ubaldo Jimenez gets some extra starts, we will.

With only eight participants, we’re somewhat limited with the games we can play in conjunction to the actual HR Derby. The brackets MLB has set up allow you to create your own little pool, but for the most part, you can’t have too many people enter it or you’re destined for a tie. But whatever floats your boat, right? This is supposed to be fun, dammit!

So with that, I will offer you up my own bracket predictions and some interesting, albeit, trendy stats for you to check out.
