Gerrit Cole on the Higher is the second leg of our Chalkboard card today, and his most recent start changed the narrative around this comeback in a meaningful way. After posting fewer than five strikeouts in three of his first four starts back from Tommy John surgery, Cole went out against the White Sox and struck out six over six innings, his best punchout output of the return and a clear sign his arm is continuing to come around. He carries a 2.45 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and an 18:6 K:BB across 22 innings since returning, and the trajectory has been steadily upward.

Tonight he faces Detroit, whose lineup carries a 24.0% rolling strikeout rate against right-handed pitching over the last two weeks.
