Bobby Witt Chalkboard MLB Pick: Over 1.5 Total Bases
For the first of our two Chalkboard MLB picks today, how can we not just lock in Bobby Witt right now? Since the calendar has flipped to May, Witt has hit safely in all but one game, all while slashing .347/.407/.694! He has a respectable .843 OPS and .372 wOBA on the road this season, and the White Sox will send out Anthony Kay in this matchup. On the year against lefties, Witt has a .324 average, .983 OPS, and .265 ISO.
Kay doesn’t miss many bats, and while he’s been excellent against lefties, the same can’t be said for righties. Kay has allowed a .343 average, .600 SLG, and .442 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season.
We don’t have the wind blowing out tonight, unfortunately, but that’s not stopping me from targeting Bobby Witt, who has homered in three of his last four and in four of his last six.
Braden Shewmake Chalkboard MLB Pick: Over 0.5 Hits
Shewmake may be far from a household name, but he’s one of my favorite plays on today’s MLB slate. After a quiet start, Shewmake has picked it up of late, slashing .435/.435/.696 during his seven-game hit streak. He has a strong 1.148 OPS and .407 AVG versus RHP on the season, and this line of 0.5 hits seems favorable against Castillo, a righty who has struggled this year.
Shewmake has worked himself higher in the order the past couple of days, and I’m hoping that sticks again here, because the more ABs he can get off Seattle’s Luis Castillo, the better. Castillo has an ERA north of seven on the road this season, and overall, left-handed hitters have posted a .374 wOBA against him! He’s not pitching well of late, and he was shellacked by the Astros earlier this year, to the tune of seven earned runs in just 3.1 IP.
I’m going to ride the hot bat on a team who has one of the best matchups on the board.
