Nationals vs. Marlins Predictions: Saturday, May 9th

We’re getting to the point of this MLB season where the same pitchers are becoming our punching bags in the realm of sports betting and Zack Littell is one of those names. Through seven starts this season, he holds a 7.24 ERA and has just 17 strikeouts over 32.1 innings pitched, but those are just surface numbers. If you dig a bit deeper, you’ll see an expected batting average against of .321, a xwOBA of .431 and an xERA of 8.37, so as bad as its been, it should be worse for the Nationals' righty. The Marlins Money Line is on the top of the docket for me today and it’s aided by a start on the Miami side from Janson Junk. Junk has been really solid this season for the Fish, holding down a xERA of 3.36 and pitching well to right-handed hitting, allowing just a .401 OPS. The Nationals' offense is good to their credit, but I expect the Marlins to have a huge advantage here so give me them on the Money Line. 

In addition to backing Miami, I like a hitter prop going against Littell. He’s getting blown up against lefties this season, allowing a 1.130 OPS and it just so happens there’s a lefty hitting the ball well right now in Miami. Liam Hicks is hitting .350 with a 1.059 OPS over his last 20 at bats is, and today, he will be hitting second in the lineup which means at least four at bats you’d figure. His hits/runs/RBIs prop sits at 1.5 today and it’s a little juicy, but the play is rock solid seeing has he has 13 total bases and five RBIs in the past week. Let’s go all in against the Nationals today and make some money!

 

 

 

Pirates vs. Giants Predictions: Saturday, May 9th

The Giants won the opening game of this weekend series last night, but they faced the worst pitcher in the Pirates' rotation and tonight they’ll face off against Braxton Ashcraft. The Pirates' young starter has been a great start to his season with a 3.02 ERA and 45 strikeouts over 41.2 innings pitched. He is stingy with hits as well with an xBA of just .190 and an xwOBA of .260! This is bad news for a Giants' offense that has struggled most of the season as they sit dead last in runs scored per game with 3.16. Their team BABIP is just .278 over the past two weeks as well so I am finding it hard to see how they win this game tonight. 

Of course, Landen Roupp has played well and is pitching for the Giants tonight, but the Pirates lineup has hit righties well this season. I expect a lower scoring game, but give me the Buccos to prevail tonight in a potential pitcher’s duel!
