Diamondbacks vs. Cubs Predictions: Sunday, May 3rd

Many baseball pundits will say its too early to pass judgement on a player right now, but I present to them Merrill Kelly! The Arizona right hander has been getting smashed so far this season as in three starts, he’s allowed 15 earned runs and 21 hits over 14.2 innings pitched. With those numbers, he’s in danger again today against a Cubs team that is really seeing the ball well over the past two weeks with an isolated power mark of .201 which is third in MLB during that time span. 

The only good news for Kelly is that he’s going head to head with Matthew Boyd, another older pitcher who is getting destroyed this season as well. Through 18 innings pitched, he’s given up 21 hits and 14 earned runs and has an xwOBA of .322. Not great! The Diamondbacks can hit lefties pretty well too, with players like Corbin Carroll, Ildemaro Vargas and Ketel Marte all hitting over a .350 OBP against the southpaws. Due to this, I will be taking an over wager on this game, even at 11.5 runs, which I don’t think the number is high enough especially on a warmish day in Chicago. 

In addition to the total. I have a player prop as well. I talked about the proficiency of the Diamondbacks hitting the lefty pitching, well no one is doing it better than Corbin Carroll. In 42 at bats. Carroll has 32 total bases and is hitting a whopping 1.251 OPS. That’s a staggering number and combine that with the fact he’s always been a solid performer in day games and it’s easy to see why taking him to go over his hits/runs/RBIs prop is one of my favorite bets on the slate. 

 

 

 

Phillies vs. Marlins Predictions: Sunday, May 3rd

Let it be known that I am fully aware how brutal the Phillies have been this season, but it’s a good spot for them to grab a win on the road today against the Marlins. Chris Paddack will take the mound for his seventh start of the season for Miami and its been a round go for him overall. He has escaped in the ERA department with 4.13 in April, but this hitting have been piling up with 27 allowed over 24 innings pitched. The Phillies offense is loaded with talent that can take on right handed pitching as well, so give me some love for a slump buster today and I will take the Phillies on a value of a Money Line. 

In addition to the Phillies’ to win wager, I love the spot for Kyle Schwarber, who is hitting a 1.060 OPS against righties on the season and has 17 total bases over his last 20 at bats. The man is just red hot and in day games, the stats maintain their integrity with five home runs and an OPS of .995 over 44 at bats. Schwarber over on his hits/runs/RBIs, take it to the bank!
