Guardians vs. Braves Predictions: Sunday, April 12th
This week’s edition of Sunday Night Baseball takes us to a matchup of teams playing some great baseball to start their seasons in Cleveland and Atlanta. It will feature a nice pitching matchup between Tanner Bibee and Chris Sale in what could be a duel on the mound. Let’s dig into the stats that matter.
Starting on the Cleveland side, Bibee has pitched effectively in three outings thus far, allowing five earned runs over 13.2 innings pitched with 14 strikeouts. He will have the occasional walk, but otherwise he’s solid. On the Atlanta side, Chris Sale has had two great starts and one were he was shelled. I’m more apt to trust in Sale though, given his history and the fact that Cleveland as a team is hitting just .235 with a .664 OPS against lefties on the season. This has me thinking runs will be at a premium as the Guardians are also scoring just 3.8 runs per game. If both pitchers continue their trends, then I see this matchup as lower scoring and I want to take the under at the number of 7.5 runs.
On top of the total, I see a big bounce back from Sale who was pulled after just four innings in his last outing. Tonight, his outs recorded prop sits at 17.5, which means he needs to go six innings. That is something Sake did in two of three starts this season and in 11 starts last season. Cleveland may not strikeout a ton, but against lefties, they just aren’t getting on base. Give me the veteran lefty to have a quality start tonight.
- Expert MLB Picks:
- Guardians & Braves Under 7.5 Runs (-105 on BetMGM Sportsbook)
- Chris Sale (ATL) Over 17.5 Outs Recorded (-125 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
Nationals vs. Brewers Predictions: Sunday, April 12th
I wrote about a potential low scoring game, so let’s flip the script on the next highlighted game in the best bets and discuss the Nationals and Brewers! Say what you want about Washington’s prospects, but they are hammering the baseball through their first 14 games of this season. In MLB, they rank fourth in isolated power, fifth in BABIP and third in wOBA which in layman’s terms, means the data backs the box score. Today, they’ll go up against Brandon Woodruff who has gotten ruffed up twice so far this season, allowing seven earned runs in 10.2 innings pitched and 12 hits. He also has a slightly below average mark in xwOBA, which sits at .291 to go with his whiff rate of just 22.8%. These numbers tell me that he will struggle again today against this young red hot Nationals offense.
On the Brewers side, they’ll go against Zach Littell, who has pitched well enough but his underlying numbers seem to say he will get lit up soon. He has a whiff rate lower than Woodruff at 21.4% and its already against a Brewers side that is only league average in K-rate. That tells me there could be tough outs for him and longer at bats. Milwaukee is also 11th in BABIP and sixth in wOBA at .326 playing a home game where they’ve scored 6.13 runs per game. Everything just lines up to an over tonight and I like the number at an even eight to be a reasonable mark to clear.
Finally on this game, let’s add a player prop since I think its going to be higher scoring. Brice Turang is the name I like today as he’s had a .471 OBP at home this season and is hitting right handed pitching to the tune of a 1.124 OPS! He’s been slow out of the gate from his four days off with a minor injury, but he jumps back into things today against the Nationals and will go over his prop of 1.5 hits/runs/RBIs.
- Expert MLB Picks:
- Nationals & Brewers Over 8 Runs (+100 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Brice Turang (MIL) Over 1.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-130 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
Best MLB Player Prop Bets & Other Picks Today, 4/12
- Marlins & Tigers Under 3.5 Runs 1st 5 Innings (-135 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Manny Machado (SD) Over 1.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-140 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Freddie Peralta (NYM) Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-145 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
