Rays vs. Phillies Prediction: Sunday, September 27th

Let’s lead off our MLB best bets today with the Philadelphia Phillies hosting the Tampa Bay Rays. It’s been a rough week for the Phils, who have now lost four straight coming into this matchup. They’re now in danger of missing the postseason altogether with another loss today, and if the Diamondbacks win as well. 

In a must-win scenario, Philadelphia will turn to veteran Zack Wheeler. The right-hander has been pitching well lately, boasting a 1.71 ERA and 1.93 FIP over his past five starts. He had a shaky August but has since turned things around. 

Wheeler owns a 2.99 FIP and 2.86 xFIP at home this year. He’s also posted a 33.1% strikeout rate and allowed just a .197 batting average in his home outings. Let’s bank on Wheeler doing his part to give Philly the win. The Rays have only a .287 wOBA against righties over the past two weeks, ranking 26th in the majors. 

On the other side, Rays starter Nick Martinez can also limit the Philadelphia lineup. The righty has posted a 2.94 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with consistent production all year. He's also pitching well, with a 2.52 ERA over his last six starts. Today, Martinez faces a Phillies offense that’s batting just .206 vs. righties over the past two weeks.

Cardinals vs. Brewers Prediction: Sunday, September 27th

Let’s focus on the Milwaukee Brewers hosting the St. Louis Cardinals for our second round of MLB best bets today. The Brewers are cruising into the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the National League. Conversely, the Cardinals have been eliminated for a while and are limping to the finish line. 

Milwaukee is not slowing down ahead of the postseason. The Brewers have won 14 of their last 17 games, and they’re 9-2 over the past 11 games. The NL Central winners are heading into the playoffs full steam ahead. Meanwhile, St. Louis has now lost eight of its last 10 games with an eye towards the offseason. Let’s back the Brew Crew to win comfortably today. 

Jacob Misiorowski toes the rubber for Milwaukee in this regular-season finale. The presumed NL Cy Young winner is rocking a 1.86 ERA and 0.80 WHIP this year, with a whopping 247 strikeouts. He also owns a 2.23 ERA and 2.08 FIP over his last seven outings. 

The Miz probably won’t pitch a full start, as the Brewers try to keep him fresh for the playoffs. However, he should dominate the Cardinals as long as he’s out there. St. Louis has a league-worst .192 batting average and .254 wOBA against right-handed pitching over the past two weeks. Plus, we can count on the Milwaukee bullpen to limit this struggling offense. 

Meanwhile, Andre Pallante starts for St. Louis. The righty has a 2.61 ERA this year with some up-and-down performances lately. He’ll face a Brewers offense that’s hammered right-handers over the past month, with a .353 wOBA (2nd in MLB) and .281 batting average (1st). In Pallante’s two outings against Milwaukee this year, he allowed six and five runs as the Cards lost both.
