MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 9/22

Astros vs. Mariners Prediction: Tuesday, September 22nd

The final week of the MLB regular season is upon us and there is a massive series for the Astros and Mariners about to be underway! The Astros need to win the AL West to get into the playoffs at this point and they are one game back of the Rangers. The Mariners are not technically eliminated yet either but they are five back of the Rangers. 

Logan Gilbert will take the bump for the Mariners today at home and that's not a good thing for them. His ERA at home this season is 4.41 and 24 of his 28 homers allowed have come in front of the fans. Over the month of September the wheels are also falling off the wagon for him as he's posted a 6.11 ERA and given up 17 hits in the last 17 innings pitched. 

On the other side of the matchup is Cristian Javier pitching tonight and he's been much better of late. In the last three starts he's allowed just four earned runs over 16.1 innings pitched and the strikeouts have been there with nearly a K/9. I do still think he will allow some runs and enough to tilt the game towards going over. Both teams rank in the top six in isolated power over the past couple of weeks and the pitchers just aren't great so over seven runs for me tonight. 

In addition to the total I like a player prop on Yainer Diaz tonight of the Astros. He's got a hot bat over the past week hitting .316 with a 1.034 OPS that has included a pair of home runs and 13 total bases over the last 18 at bats. He has also hit right handed pitching well all season with a line of an .275 average and .757 OPS. Let's go ahead and take him to go over his hits/runs/RBIs prop.
