Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Guardians Predictions: Tuesday, September 23rd

It's a monumental series starting today for the Tigers and Guardians as they look to put their stamps on the American League Central! The Tigers are looking to avoid blowing an 11-game lead in the division in one month, and the Guardians have won 15 of the last 17 games. So let’s dive into how this one will go down. 

Part of the reason for the Tigers' collapse is that their hitting is terrible right now. Their once top-of-the-league isolated power mark is now in the bottom third in September at .151, and their team BABIP of .286 is hardly good either. All the while, their K-rate has ballooned to 24.5% which is on par with teams like the Pirates and White Sox. It's going to be a good spot for Gavin Williams tonight, Cleveland’s starting pitcher, given these trends, but he’s also allowed just 3 earned runs over his last 3 starts and has an ERA of around 2 since early August!

On the other end of the matchup, the Guardians' offense has been the better of the two lately, but they still aren’t setting the world on fire with their .174 ISO and .292 BABIP. I am also worried about them facing Tarik Skubal tonight. The 2024 Cy Young winner has held down a 2.6 ERA over his last 55.2 innings pitched dating back to early August, and I don’t think he will slow down tonight.

With all of this on the table, it’s the under in this game tonight for me in a pitchers’ duel where every hit will be at a premium. 

 

 

 

Chicago White Sox vs. New York Yankees Predictions: Tuesday, September 23rd

This week of wagering is really all about motivation, and the Yankees with Luis Gil have it today. The White Sox, on the other hand, do not! Luis Gil has gone through September, finding his rhythm again with a 2.70 ERA over the course of 16.2 innings. He has also allowed just 12 hits! The strikeout numbers have been low, but the games have come against the Twins, Red Sox, and Blue Jays, all teams much more disciplined than the White Sox. It's going to be tight, but the White Sox have a 25.5% K-rate since the start of September, so I will take on Gil to get over 5.5 strikeouts tonight. 

In addition to the pitcher prop, I like the Yankees to win in a big way, too. At 44-31, the Bronx Bombers have enjoyed their home turf a lot this season and have scored 5.01 runs per game. These stats and averages should be enough to beat the White Sox, but I will also say that the Yankees' isolated power mark of .187 over the past month is also a determining factor, as it’s the 4th highest mark in the majors. Yankees on the Run Line tonight as they try to clinch their way to a playoff berth!
