MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 8/6

Yankees vs. Rangers Predictions

This series continues today with a matinee matchup set to start in the early afternoon, and I have a feeling it's going to be a good showing for the Yankees as Carlos Rodon takes the mound against Jack Leiter!

I talk about it all the time in these articles, but it's so hard to sweep a team in MLB in any matchup, and while the Yankees have been worse for wear lately, I like their spot today. Aaron Judge is back in the lineup, and that’s huge for morale. And they should do well against Leiter, who has been inconsistent in his rookie season with his 4.1 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. The Yankees have lost 5 in a row, but they have been in those games, and a breakthrough is coming with the help of Rodon on the bump today.

Rodon has had a decent July with an ERA just over 4, but the strikeout numbers have improved greatly with 33 Ks over the last 28 innings pitched, and the Rangers against lefties have a team K-rate of 25.3% which is 4th in MLB. Their offense is also lacking the big hits against the southpaws, with just a .127 isolated power mark. Things have been tough for the Yankees in the dog days of summer, but I like them to win today and for Rodon to keep up the strikeouts and go over 6.5.

Pick: Yankees Money Line (-135 on DraftKings)

Pick: Carlos Rodon (NYY) over 6.5 Strikeouts (-145 on DraftKings)

Royals vs. Red Sox Predictions

The Red Sox are on a big-time winning streak, and the Royals are back under .500 again. Which trend will continue or break? Let’s dive into the matchup!

Dustin May is going to start for the Red Sox for the first time, and while it's good they got another arm, it's hard to trust May given his history over the last couple of seasons. He comes into this matchup through 18 starts on the season with a 4.85 ERA and a WHIP of 1.35, both numbers are perfectly average. However, he just pitched at Fenway Park a couple of weeks ago, and he got lit up! The ball is going to be in play often in this matchup, of course, as the Royals are only striking out 18.4% of the time since July 1st and have boosted their isolated power mark to .199. This makes me like the Royals here as the underdogs today, as streaks can only go so long, and they have the better pitcher on the mound.

I am talking about Michael Wacha, of course, who since the start of July has given up just 8 earned runs over 28.1 innings of work and all the while allowing just 15 total hits. He pitches well against both righties and lefties with opposing averages hanging in the .230s, so he will just need a bit of offense to put the Royals in position to win tonight, and I’m banking on May allowing some runs. Royals on the Money Line for me tonight as the underdog!

Pick: Royals Money Line (+120 on DraftKings)
