MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 8/22

Cardinals vs. Rays Predictions

A pair of teams just under the .500 mark square off for a weekend series starting tonight as the St. Louis Cardinals head south to take on the Tampa Bay Rays! There are a couple of wagers I like going into this one, so let’s dig into the matchup!

Miles Mikolas will start for the Cardinals, and he’s been really bad since the start of July, allowing 25 runs over 41.1 innings pitched while also giving up 43 hits and collecting just 24 strikeouts during that time. He may get along better tonight in the strikeout department as the Rays are up there in team K rate in the month of August, but he allows a lot of power as well, 21 home runs this season!

That’s where young slugger Junior Caminero comes into play tonight, despite his recent cold streak over the past week. Caminero is smashing at home this season with a .315 average and .953 OPS, and has hit 18 of his 35 homers on the season in front of the fans at the Triple-A ballpark. His line on hits/runs/RBIs is a bit inflated at 2.5, but that’s because he has the power threat, and against Mikolas, that is warranted, so give me the over at plus money. 

In addition to the prop, I like the Rays to win this game on the Money Line as they play much better on home turf, and the Cardinals are well under .500 on the road, and Tampa Bay will have the pitching advantage with Adrian Houser pitching with his 2.67 ERA on the season.
