MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 8/20

Athletics vs. Twins Predictions

It’s a pair of pitchers that aren’t rolling too hot right now as Bailey Ober squares off against J.T. Ginn in this matchup of the Athletics & Twins! Ober has had his ERA pushed up to 5.15 on the season, while Ginn is at 5.04 and rising. Let’s dive into the matchup for some wagers. 

The Twins are falling out of the playoff race quickly after a good start to the summer, but it looks to be over right now. It hasn’t been the fault of the offense, though, as they’ve posted 20 runs in the past 5 games and should be able to hit around Ginn tonight, who’s been terrible in the month of August, allowing 12 earned runs in the last 11.1 innings pitched. 

On the Athletics side of the game, their offense continues to post solid numbers with 30 runs in the past 5 games, and their core of sluggers is hot right now, too. So, look for them to chase Ober off earlier than normal tonight and give the over on 9 runs for the game. 

In addition to the total, I really like the spot for Nick Kurtz tonight, who is a lefty and will be hitting leadoff for the A’s. Kurtz on the season is hitting .359 with a 1.199 OPS against right-handed pitching and more recently, over the past week, he’s hitting .571 with a 1.914 OPS. The man is just barreling the ball all over the place, so I will be needing to take him on his prop of hits/runs/RBIs tonight.
