MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 7/28

Blue Jays vs. Orioles Predictions

It’s a rivalry matchup series in the AL East to kick off the week as the Blue Jays are flying south to Baltimore to take on the Orioles. Massive pitching mismatch today in my mind with Zach Eflin going against Chris Bassitt, so let’s dive into the numbers.

Bassitt has been nails for the Blue Jays in the month of July with an ERA of 2.39 over 26.1 innings pitched, in which he’s not given up 25 hits while racking up 24 strikeouts to just 4 walks! Hard to see an Orioles team that has struggled in isolated power stats at .171 and BABIP at .270 challenging him all that much.

On the other side, the Blue Jays' offense since July 1st has the highest BABIP in MLB at .320 and a K-rate of just 16.4%. Those are not good stats for Zach Eflin as he’s struggled getting strikeouts all season and is allowing opposing batters a .297 average on the season. Give me the Blue Jays to continue stacking up wins tonight on odds that are more than fair for their Money Line tonight.

In addition to that, I must load up a player prop against Eflin as he’s been so bad of late, and who else should we back but Bo Bichette, who is hitting .375 with a 1.019 OPS over the past 7 games and has hit righties well all season at .293 and .788. I like him to hammer his hits/runs/RBIs tonight, so let’s ride the over on that!

Pick: Blue Jays Money Line (-110 on DraftKings)

Pick: Bo Bichette (TOR) Over 2.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (+115 on DraftKings)

Dodgers vs. Reds Predictions

It’s a matchup of two pitchers that are in different stages of their ascension, but they both can throw the ball, no doubt, as the Dodgers and Reds square off. Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Chase Burns are going head-to-head, so let’s break down how I see them one playing out.

Starting on the home side, I do really like Chase Burns, the prospect, but he’s still young and has lapses from time to time. Against other teams that may be fine, but not against this Dodgers lineup. That being said, the strikeout numbers are massive, and the Dodgers have been whiffing quite often in the month of July with a 24.4% strikeout rate. Seeing as Burns has 35 strikeouts in 21.2 innings pitched this season, it's not hard to see why taking over 6.5 strikeouts for him at plus money is something I am absolutely going to wager on.

On top of that, and it may be contradictory, but I like the Dodgers to win the game. Burns is great at racking up Ks, but the Reds have lost 4 of 5 starts this season with him pitching, and Yamamoto is one of the best pitchers in the National League with a 2.29 ERA in the month of July. Hard to face off against that and the Dodger bats, so give me some Los Angeles tonight on the Money Line

Pick: Chase Burns (CIN) Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+120 on DraftKings)

Pick: Dodgers Money Line (-150 on DraftKings)
