Detroit Tigers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Predictions: Tuesday, July 22nd
The Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh Pirates continue their interleague series on Tuesday night with a potential pitchers’ duel on tap. We have Casey Mize starting for Detroit and Mitch Keller on the mound for Pittsburgh. Let’s count on both to anchor a low-scoring contest.Â
Keller has been pitching well lately with his name circulating as a top MLB trade deadline target. The Pirates’ right-hander owns a 2.32 ERA over his past 7 starts and a 2.92 ERA over his last 12 starts. He’s also recorded a quality start or better in 14 of 20 outings overall this season.Â
Keller has been very productive at home recently as well. He has a 2.98 ERA over his past 7 home starts. He’ll face a dangerous Detroit lineup tonight, but still should do well at home. The Tigers haven’t gotten going offensively since the All-Star break, averaging 0.8 runs per game over four contests. They’re batting just .228 vs. righties in July as well (23rd in MLB).Â
Meanwhile, Mize offers some upside on the other side of the matchup. Yes, he got roughed up for 6 runs in his latest start before the AS break. Before that, though, the righty had a 2.34 ERA over his previous 6 outings.Â
Mize has been mostly effective this season, with 2 earned runs or fewer in 12 of 16 starts. He owns a 3.08 ERA on the road this season, too. The Tigers’ starter will face a Pirates offense with terrible numbers vs. righties in July (.206 BA, .239 wOBA, 47 wRC+). Pittsburgh is bad in the split overall this year with a .289 wOBA (29th in MLB) and 81 wRC+ (28th).Â
Let’s take the under for both the full game and the first five innings. Bank on Keller and Mize to set the tone for a pitching-dominant, low-scoring game. The Tigers and Pirates played to a 3-0 final last night, and we may see something similar on Tuesday.Â

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Seattle Mariners Predictions: Tuesday, July 22nd
Let’s now turn our attention to a late-night matchup as the Seattle Mariners host the red-hot Milwaukee Brewers, who are riding an 11-game winning streak. That includes a 6-0 victory for the Brew Crew over the Mariners in yesterday’s series opener. Even so, the home favorites are the play here.Â
Logan Gilbert toes the rubber for Seattle. He has a solid 3.39 ERA through 12 starts this season, though his 2.96 FIP and 2.36 xFIP suggest positive regression. The right-hander will look to begin the second half strong after some up-and-down starts before the All-Star break.Â
Backing Gilbert at home is usually profitable. The right-hander owns a 2.29 ERA, 2.30 FIP, and .207 wOBA at home this season compared to a 4.91 ERA, 3.87 FIP, and .365 wOBA on the road. We saw this last year from Gilbert, who recorded a 2.49 ERA and 2.81 FIP at home.Â
Of course, fading the Milwaukee offense is risky right now. The Brewers have scored 6+ runs in six of their last seven games coming into tonight. Yet, Gilbert’s strong home stats are trustworthy.Â
On the other side, exciting rookie Jacob Misiorowski starts for Milwaukee. He boasts a 2.81 ERA over five starts thus far as one of the league’s more electric young arms. Still, he’s fadeable on the road here.Â
Misiorowski is bound for negative regression based on his 3.83 FIP, which is a full run higher than his ERA. He’s been a bit lucky with a .160 BABIP and 86.2% left-on-base rate. Plus, the righty has only made two road starts thus far. The most recent one was shaky with 5 runs allowed over 3.2 innings against the Mets.Â
Seattle can get to Misiorowski and make him work. In July, the Mariners have a .362 wOBA vs. righties (3rd in MLB) with a 139 wRC+ (2nd), .278 BA (5th), and .216 ISO (5th). The M’s are also a top-10 offense against righties overall this year with a .328 wOBA and 116 wRC+. It’s a tough matchup for the rookie, who hasn’t proven he can be consistently effective on the road.Â
