MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 6/18
Red Sox vs. Mariners Predictions
It's back to the well on this series after cashing a bet on Monday’s article! This afternoon features a huge mismatch with Garrett Crochet on the bump for the Red Sox and a Mariners team that has just been hacking away all season against left-handed pitching!
Crochet is looking like a Cy Young winner this season as his ERA sits at 2.24 with a 1.03 WHIP, but what’s more impressive is that hitters are only averaging .202 against him, and his wOBA is .255! This means hitters are not getting on base often, and that means the lefty can go much deeper into games with his efficiency. The strikeout numbers are something to behold as well, with his last 5 starts yielding 44 punchouts over the over of 33.1 innings pitched. Those numbers put this Mariners lineup in a tough spot as they’ve struck out at a rate of 25.4% against the southpaws this season. Crochet’s number is 7.5 today, and I think he hits the over on that number and then some against Seattle.Â
In addition to that, wager on the Red Sox ace. I like Luis Castillo a lot as well for the Mariners side of the pitching duel. Castillo has maintained an ERA of just over 3 dating back to the start of May, and in those 8 starts has struck out 39 batters himself. The Red Sox offense in the 2 games since Rafael Devers has posted 8 runs, which isn’t bad, but they played a bad pitcher last night, and Castillo will give them more of a challenge here tonight, so let’s take the under on the first 5 innings of this matchup.Â
Pick: Garrett Crochet (BOS) Over 7.5 Strikeouts (-150 on DraftKings)
Pick: Red Sox & Mariners 1st 5 Innings Under 3.5 Runs (-120 on DraftKings)

Mets vs. Braves Predictions
A big-time matchup in the NL East is underway tonight as the Braves continue to dig themselves out of their early-season hole, and the Mets will look to continue winning and staying on top of the division. It could be a tough task with Chris Sale on the mound, though, so let’s dig into this game and what to wager on.Â
The Braves come into today 7 games under the .500 mark, but they’ve been playing much better of late, winning 5 of their last 7 games, which has included winning two straight series and taking the opening game of this one yesterday. Chris Sale being on the mound should keep things rolling for them as he’s been nails over his last 7 starts with an ERA around 1.25 and has given up just 2 home runs over the past 45.1 innings pitched! There have been walks, which isn’t great, but he’s also struck out 61 batters during this span and has looked dominant once again.Â
This is a big-time problem for the Mets offense as they’ve struggled a bit of late overall with just 17 runs scored in the last 5 games and their issues in BABIP against left-handed pitching, where they’re hitting .289, which is close to league average. For all of these reasons, I will be taking the Braves to win on the alternate Run Line tonight at -1.Â
In addition to that wager, you know I need to fade Paul Blackburn tonight, who has pitched just 3 games so far this season and has looked really rusty in those outings. The Mets pitcher is allowing an average over .300 to both sides of the plate so far, and that means wheels up for Ronald Acuna, who is hitting .625 over the past 5 games with 10 hits, 8 runs, and 4 RBIs! I expect Acuna Jr. to keep up his hot streak tonight and go over his prop of 2.5 hits/runs/RBIs.Â
Pick: Braves Alt Run Line -1 (-130 on DraftKings)
Pick: Ronald Acuna (ATL) Over 2.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (+110 on DraftKings)
