MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 5/9
Padres vs. Rockies Predictions
Going against the Rockies at Coors Field seems to be the money maker this season, so mind as well hit them again! The Padres are set to be the latest beneficiary tonight as they go up against Antonio Senzatela, who has really struggled in his 7 starts to begin the season. His ERA of over 6 since the beginning of April is concerning, as is his last of strikeouts, just 17 over 30 innings pitched, and the news is worse considering the Padres rarely punch out.
Senzatela has given up a total of 51 hits in his last 6 starts, so that’s where we with start on our betting for the day. There are multiple batters for the Padres that are hitting right-handed pitching well this season, from Fernando Tatis and Manny Machado to Jackson Merrill and Gavin Sheets. Merrill is the name that interests me the most today, though, as he’s really come back from injury in a big way with 4 hits, of which one was a home run and the other was a double! Him batting clean up puts his prop of hits/runs/RBIs as a must wager tonight, even if the number is inflated.
The second wager on this game is just going to be on the Padres' offense overall. Their prop stands at 5.5 team total runs for the time being and that’s a very fair number in Coors Field against a pitcher this bad. Senzatela has given up 8 home runs and opposing batters' OPS of 1.009 this season, so for this lineup, 6 runs shouldn’t be too much of an ask, hammer that over.
Pick: Jackson Merrill (SD) Over 2.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-140 on DraftKings)
Pick: Padres Team Total Over 5.5 Runs (-150 on DraftKings)
Blue Jays vs. Mariners Predictions
After writing up a game where the runs will flow like water, how about one that should be a pitchers duel tonight? That’s right, it's Kevin Gausman of the Blue Jays tonight against Luis Castillo of the Mariners, and both of these guys are set for great nights. I do like the spot for Castillo a bit more than the Blue Jays are really struggling on the road this season, scoring just 3.06 runs per game. But Gausman is set up well, too, as he doesn’t need to rely on strikeouts to get outs and pitch a great game.
I’ll start my first wager by saying I like the Mariners to win this game. They are playing great ball right now, winning 8 of the last 10 games, and their offense has come alive, scoring 5.14 runs per game. The Blue Jays, on the other hand, are 6-12 on the road and are 2nd to last in isolated power metrics. That means they are hitting the big shots, and Castillo will make them pay, Mariners Money Line no doubt.
The next wager will be fading the Blue Jays' offense by propping up Castillo in his start. In 38.1 innings of work this season, he has allowed just 14 runs and has gone 5 or more innings in 6 of 7 starts. His prop today of outs recorded is 17.5, which is more than fai,r and I think he gets it done considering the Blue Jays' massive issues on the road. There will be some juice to eat here, but it's worth it to build up the bankroll for the weekend.
Pick: Mariners Money Line (-130 on DraftKings)
Pick: Luis Castillo (SEA) Over 17.5 Outs Recorded (-160 on DraftKings)
Best MLB Prop Bets & Other Picks Today, 5/9
Pick: Max Meyer (MIA) Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-135 on DraftKings)
Pick: Trevor Larnach (MIN) Over 1.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-145 on BetMGM)

Pick: Orioles Run Line -1.5 (+115 on BetMGM)
