Guardians vs. Twins Predictions: Tuesday, May 20th
Let’s lead off our MLB picks with an AL Central matchup between the Minnesota Twins and the Cleveland Guardians. The home Twins have the slight starting pitching edge and the more favorable recent offensive splits for this game. Let’s break down why backing Minnesota is the play here.Â
First off, it’s worth mentioning the current forms of both teams right now. The Twins recently reeled off a 13-game winning streak before finally losing on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Guardians are just 2-6 in their past eight games and just got swept by the Reds over the weekend. By the way, the Twins and Guardians will finish their suspended game from last night before playing this one.Â
Twins starter Chris Paddack has just a 4.05 ERA this season, but he’s trending up lately. His ERA is inflated by two shaky starts to begin the season. Since then, though, Paddack owns an impressive 2.05 ERA over his last seven starts. The right-hander has allowed just one run over his last two outings as well.Â
Cleveland has been a bottom-tier offense against right-handed pitching recently. Over the past week vs. righties, the Guardians have a .265 wOBA (26th in MLB), 69 wRC+ (25th), and .190 batting average (28th). They’re also averaging only 2.4 runs per game over the past eight contests. Paddack can handle this matchup at home, where he boasts a 2.95 ERA compared to a 4.97 ERA on the road.Â
Guardians starter Gavin Williams has a 4.29 ERA and 1.64 WHIP this season. His 5.08 xERA and 4.54 FIP are even worse. Though he’s been a bit better lately, Williams still has a 4.66 ERA and 5.09 FIP over his last six starts. The right-hander’s 12.8% walk rate (10th MLB percentile), 11.6% barrel rate (17th), and .271 xBA (23rd) are worrisome advanced metrics.Â
Williams coughed up four runs and seven hits across just two innings of work against the Twins last month. He could struggle again in this rematch on the road, where he has a 5.30 ERA this year. Minnesota is a top-tier offense vs. righties over the past week with a .350 wOBA (7th), 129 wRC+ (6th), and .273 BA (7th).Â
Let’s grab the Twins to win on the moneyline and lead after the first five innings. Minnesota also owns the bullpen advantage with a league-best 3.01 FIP this year.Â

Orioles vs. Brewers Predictions: Tuesday, May 20th
Let’s now turn our attention to an interleague matchup between the Baltimore Orioles and Milwaukee Brewers. Multiple stats and trends with the pitchers and offenses point to a lower-scoring game tonight. Let’s take a closer look.Â
The Brewers will start rookie Logan Henderson tonight. He has a 2.45 ERA and 3.09 FIP across his first two starts of the year with an impressive 16:2 K:BB ratio in 11 innings. The righty has carried over his minor-league success after posting a 2.40 ERA in six Triple-A outings earlier this season.Â
Henderson has always been a high-strikeout pitcher. He had a 32.8% strikeout rate with an outstanding 28.1% K-BB% in the minors last year. The 23-year-old offers a ton of upside in the right matchups. Today’s spot profiles as exactly that.Â
Baltimore has struggled on the road this season with a .281 wOBA (26th in MLB), 80 wRC+ (26th), and .219 batting average (27th). The Orioles have also been below average against right-handed pitching over the past two weeks.Â
Meanwhile, Baltimore will use left-hander Keegan Akin as their opener before turning to right-hander Chayce McDermott as the primary pitcher. Akin has a solid 3.27 ERA in 22 innings this year. He threw 1.2 scoreless innings the one other time he was in the opener role this season. The Brewers have just a .276 wOBA and 72 wRC+ vs. lefties this year.Â
As for McDermott, he’ll make his second appearance of the season. He was admittedly shaky in his outing last week, allowing four runs over three innings. Yet, McDermott can be productive in the long relief role after Akins. The Brewers have the league’s worst offense at home this year (.275 wOBA, 72 wRC+).Â
Milwaukee has also struggled against right-handed pitching lately. Over the past two weeks vs. righties, the lineup has a .263 wOBA (29th), 64 wRC+ (29th), .204 batting average (29th), and 25.2% K rate (26th). McDermott had a 1.86 ERA in three minor-league outings before his recent call-up. He also had a 3.10 ERA in the minors last year.Â
Grab the under for the full game and the first five innings. Check out these favorable under trends as well. The Brewers are 14-8-1 to the under at home this season (63.6%) while the Orioles are 14-8-1 to the under on the road. These teams played to the over last night, so a lower-scoring matchup should come here.Â
