MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 9/26

Tigers vs. Red Sox Predictions

A huge series in the American League Wild Card race kicks off tonight as each team is in the thick of the playoff hunt. Both teams are desperate, so let’s dig into the wager to make in this matchup. 

The Tigers' collapse is almost complete as they no longer lead the AL Central, but they can still make the playoffs with some wins or some help; their offense hasn’t been much help. Over the past week, they rank in the bottom half of the league in isolated power at .145, and their K-rate has soared to 30.5%! That strikeout mark is the highest in baseball over the past 7 days, so the Red Sox pitchers seem primed to feast in that category. 

On the other side, Boston can’t score either as the offense has posted isolated power numbers of .117 and is striking out 21.6% of at-bats. They’ll have to go against Casey Mize on the Tigers' pitching side as well, and his 3.68 ERA over the past 4 starts has been clutch for the team. He has allowed 21 hits over 22 innings pitched, but just 4 walks, so nothing will come easy today for the Red Sox hitters. 

This game just screams under to me, even though the Red Sox are sending out Kyle Harrison to pitch. Expect the arms to dominate the night, and the total of 9 runs is just too high for me. 

 

 

 

Rangers vs. Guardians Predictions

The Guardians are just a couple of wins away from doing the unthinkable and coming back to win the AL Central after being down double-digit games in the standings a few weeks ago! They’ve done so on the backs of timely hitting and great pitching, but will that continue?

Slade Cecconi will pitch for the Guardians today, and as I said, the pitching has been stout. Over his 4 starts in September, he has allowed just 17 hits on 26 innings pitched while collecting 23 strikeouts to just 5 walks! I expect the dominance to continue today as the Rangers' offense has bottomed out since they were eliminated from the postseason. Over the past week, the Texas bats have had an isolated power mark of just .098, the 2nd worst mark in MLB. They’re also striking out more at a rate of 26.3% so everything is lined up for Cecconi to cook today. 

On the Rangers side, Jack Leiter will start, and he’s been average in September with an ERA of 4.7 and 23 hits over 23 innings pitched. He will try to lean on strikeouts, but this Guardians team is disciplined, so I think the matchup proves in Cleveland’s favor. The Rangers are also just 32-46 on the road this season, so let’s bet on a Money Line for the home team Guardians tonight!
