MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 8/29

Cardinals vs. Reds Predictions

As we head into the last series in August, it’s a pivotal matchup between the Cardinals and Reds as they try to hang in the National League Wild Card race! I do see an edge in this first game, too, so let’s dig in!

Matthew Liberatore played a good half-season, but since the start of July, he’s been getting chewed up game by game. In the last 34 innings pitched, he’s allowed 27 runs and 41 hits while walking 15 hitters as well! The strikeouts have been down, too, which may give the Reds' lineup a boost from their fanning ways. The Cardinals team behind Liberatore may not be much help either, as they’ve gone cold with just 17 runs over the past 5 games. There is also the issue of their play on the road in general, where the red birds are 29-37 on the season. 

On the Reds' side, they’ve been a great home team at 36-29, and coming off 3 straight losses, they’re due in my mind after a series against the Dodgers. They’ll send out Zack Littell on the mound, and he’s been solid in August with a 3.92 ERA, and the walks have been minimal with just 6 over the last 20.2 innings pitched. Reds on the Money Line is the play for this matchup, no doubt in my mind. 

 

 


Mariners vs. Guardians Predictions

The next game I am highlighting for wagering is a meeting between the Mariners and Guardians as they begin a new series in Cleveland tonight! Picking on Logan Allen will be on the agenda, so let’s get into the numbers. 

Allen is getting teed off on in the month of August with an ERA of 5.95, and he’s allowed 8 home runs over his last 8 starts, not a good thing against a team full of sluggers like the Mariners. His WHIP is also inflating with 22 hits and 14 walks allowed over just 19.2 innings this month. He’s going to really struggle against the righty bats of Seattle, as he’s given up 13 homers on the season and averages of .271 with a .772 OPS. 

That’s where MLB home run leader Cal Raleigh is going to come into play as he’s hit lefty pitching well this season with a .280 average and 1.036 OPS. While he’s cooled off a bit of late, he’s still a threat with one swing of the bat, and against a floundering pitcher, I think this is a great spot for a get-right game. Raleigh to go over his hits/runs/RBIs prop is a wager to hit, as will be the Mariners' total runs scored in this game, as the whole top of the lineup should eat tonight in a big way.
