MLB Postseason Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 9/30
Tigers vs. Guardians Predictions
After blowing the biggest divisional lead in American League history, the Tigers have a chance to redeem themselves in the Wild Card round against the team that took the pennant from them. While I am not so sure of that happening, I do have an angle for this Game 1 I intend to wager on.Â
Tarik Skubal is pitching for the Tigers today, and his accolades are common knowledge at this point: Cy Young Winner and one of the best pitchers in the game. He maintained an ERA of 2.21 this season and had the best WHIP in the league at 0.89! He also finished the year with 241 strikeouts, which was 2nd in MLB, just truly remarkable stuff. He will face off against a Guardians offense that was hot in September but cooled off a bit towards the end of the month. Their K-rate rose to 24.4% over the past two weeks, and their isolated power mark fell from around .190 to .170. Skubal may give up some hits and a run or two, but no way he gets blasted tonight.Â
On the other end of the matchup is Gavin Williams for Cleveland, and he’s having the best pitching run of his career. Over the past 5 starts, he’s pitched 31 innings while allowing just 22 hits, 6 earned runs, and has 38 strikeouts. A lot of the Guardians' comeback in September was on the pitching, and Williams was a big part of that, clearly. He will pitch against a Tigers team that couldn’t hit a beach ball throughout September with a .118 isolated power mark and a 29.6 strikeout rate. I think both pitchers are set up very well here, so give me the under on the game and over on Williams' strikeouts this afternoon.Â
- Pick: Tigers & Guardians Under 6.5 Runs (-135 on DraftKings)
- Pick: Gavin Williams (CLE) Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+125 on DraftKings)
