Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves Predictions: Monday, September 22nd
Atlanta may be eliminated from playoff contention, but it’s ending the year strong. The Braves have now won 8 straight games, including a road sweep of the Tigers this past weekend. They’re also outscoring opponents by a combined 61-21 scoreline during this winning streak.
Let’s back the Braves again on Monday as they host Washington. The Nationals just beat the Mets twice, but they’re still just 4-8 over the past 12 games. That includes losing four games to Atlanta just last week.Â
Braves starter Chris Sale has been pitching very well since returning to the rotation last month. He has a 1.75 ERA over his past 4 starts coming into today. He also now owns a 1.24 ERA and 2.09 FIP since the beginning of May (12 starts). This current version of Sale is the guy who won the NL Cy Young a year ago.Â
Sale now faces a Nats offense that’s been terrible vs. left-handed pitching lately. In the split during September, Washington has a league-low .223 wOBA with a 39 wRC+ (29th in MLB), .203 BA (29th), and 28.8% strikeout rate (27th). It’s a great matchup for Sale, who has a 2.56 ERA in 7 career outings against the Nationals. He also boasts a 2.39 ERA and 2.51 FIP at home this year.Â
On the other side, the Braves should provide run support against Washington starter MacKenzie Gore. The lefty has actually been good lately, with a 2.84 ERA over his past 6 starts. He also just posted 5.1 scoreless innings against Atlanta last time out.Â
Yet, Gore has proven to be prone to blowup outings this year. A rough start could be coming on the road, with Atlanta averaging 7.6 runs per game during this win streak. The Braves also have a top-tier offense vs. lefties this month, with a .345 wOBA (4th in MLB) and 122 wRC+ (5th) in the split during September.Â

Milwaukee Brewers at San Diego Padres Predictions: Monday, September 22nd
As the Padres and Brewers start up their series today, plenty of playoff implications are on the line for both squads. Milwaukee already has the division locked up, but the National League’s top seed is still up for grabs. Meanwhile, San Diego is safe in the Wild Card standings, but a division crown is also possible in this final week.Â
We’re gifted with an excellent starting pitching matchup in this Monday night showdown. Freddy Peralta and Nick Pivetta should keep the bats quiet early on as we grab the under.Â
Peralta is having a career year for Milwaukee, posting a 2.65 ERA over 31 starts. He’s pitching very well lately with a 1.38 ERA over his past 7 starts. He’s also allowed fewer than 2 earned runs in 7 of his last 8 starts now. Plus, going back a bit further, Peralta has a 2.35 ERA over his past 14 starts.Â
The road matchup against San Diego is a tough one. However, Peralta should be up to the task. He tossed 6 shutout innings against the Padres earlier this season. He also owns a 2.86 ERA in 22 career innings against them.Â
As for Pivetta, he’s also having the best season of his career. The San Diego right-hander boasts a 2.81 ERA and 0.97 WHIP entering today’s start. He’s been good lately, with a 2.40 ERA over his past 7 starts. Plus, Pivetta has allowed fewer than 3 earned runs in 13 of his last 15 outings now, with a 2.05 ERA in this stretch.Â
Similar to Peralta, the matchup vs. the Brewers is challenging. Yet, Pivetta’s current form is tough to ignore. He also owns a 2.22 ERA and 2.84 FIP at home this year.Â
