MLB Postseason Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 10/6

Cubs vs. Brewers Predictions

After a spanking in Game 1 of this series, the Cubs will look to right the ship against the Brewers, but I am not sure that’s the wager to make! It's Shota Imanaga against an opener in Aaron Ashby with Quinn Preister waiting in the wings, so let’s dive into the matchup.

Imanaga had a very good year overall, but in September and his first start in the playoffs, things seemed to be coming unraveled. In his last 6 starts, which spanned over 31.2 innings, he gave up 33 hits, 22 earned runs, and had just 25 strikeouts. The leash has been tight for him, too, as he hasn’t pitched into the 6th inning since early September, and the Brewers had one of the lowest strikeout rates in baseball through much of the year. This means he’s going to have to earn his outs, and against Milwaukee, that can be tricky.

I like the under on Imanaga’s strikeout prop for this very reason, as he figures to pitch into the 5th at most, and the Brewers had a team BABIP of .319 on the season against left-handed pitching, so 3.5 strikeouts, while it is a low number, seems like one the Japanese pitcher will fall short of tonight.

Dodgers vs. Phillies Predictions

Sparks flew in the opener to this NLDS series over the weekend as the Dodgers took Game 1 with a 5-3 win that featured some big-time clutch hitting! Now it’ll be Blake Snell against Jesus Luzardo on the bump tonight, so let’s make a wager on the matchup.

Both pitchers come into the postseason playing well, Snell a bit better with his ERA numbers, but Luzardo really found a home in Philadelphia, too. I can’t wager in favor of these hurlers, though, as the postseason is temperamental and the hooks are quicker from the bullpen. I also worry about these offenses as both hit lefty pitching well all season, with the Dodgers having an isolated power mark of .191, the 2nd best in MLB, and the Phillies finished in 7th at .172. Neither team is known for strikeouts, either with BABIP numbers near or above .300.

The total is set at 7.5, and that’s a fair number given the sluggers involved in the game tonight. I like the over as Luzardo lacks postseason experience, and Snell was much worse on the road than at home this season, with a 4.3 ERA compared to 1.17 in Los Angeles. The Phillies need this win tonight, too, so they will be swinging away. Give me the over on 7.5, and let’s see some big swings!
