MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 9/10

Pirates vs. Orioles Predictions

The opening game of this series went to 11 innings last night, but it was dominated by pitching, and seeing what’s in store for today, I see a lot of the same coming. It's Paul Skenes day for the Pirates, and the Orioles are sending out Tyler Wells for his 2nd start of the season, so let’s dive into the matchup.

Not much I can type that hasn’t been written about Paul Skenes already, he dominates start after start and is about to win the Cy Young award in the National League. Over the past 3 starts, he’s allowed just 1 earned run and has 21 strikeouts over 19 innings during that span. Hard to see an Orioles team that ranks first in K-rate over the past 14 days at 27.9% challenging Skenes much. I like Skenes to go over his strikeout prop of course tonight in a big way, so let’s hammer the over on 7.5 Ks.

In addition to the strikeout prop, I like the under on the game total as well. Both offenses have gone silent in the past 2 weeks, with the Pirates holding an isolated power mark of .108, last in MLB, and the Orioles sitting at .148, which is also below average. Orioles starter Tyler Wells won’t need to be at his best to play well against an offense like that for the Pirates, so I will be taking the under on 7.5 runs tonight.

Brewers vs. Rangers Predictions

I just barely missed the game total in this one yesterday, so I am going back to the well again on this matchup! It’s a top-tier pitchers' duel on the bumps for the Brewers and Rangers this afternoon, so let’s jump into the numbers.

Freddy Peralta will go for the Brewers today, and there have been very few pitchers who were better than him in August and so far in September. He has given up just 1 earned run since the start of August and through 6 starts. That's correct, ONE run allowed over the course of 33 innings pitched, some silly stuff. During that time, he also collected 42 strikeouts and gave up just 13 total hits. I know the Rangers are playing well right now, but I don’t see even them showing out tonight.

On the other end, Merrill Kelly has also been excellent since he was acquired by the Rangers, with just 14 earned runs allowed over his last 42.1 innings pitched. His strikeout numbers are also up, with 35 total to just 9 walks in those 7 starts. He should have the upper hand against a Brewers offense that has cooled off the last couple of weeks, with a team ISO of just .159 right now. Under bets aren’t sexy, but they pay just the same, so let’s ride it.
